Sorcaladin Gish without AC
« on: June 09, 2014, 04:54:07 PM »
Back to business after a long hiatus from playing RPGs. As I departed from roleplaying nearly a decade ago I wanted my next PC to be a gish, so now that I`m returning I want to fullfill my desire and try an sorcaladin.

Bad news, is that Complete Mage is not allowed  :shakefist >:(

Books: Complete Arcane, Divine, Adventurer, Warrior
Unearthed Arcana, BoED, BoVD

Rules: 32 point build, Starting at LV7

This is what I have come as far:

Str 14 Dex 11 Con 14 Int 13 Wis 10 Cha 16

Paladin 2 / Sorcerer 4 / SpellSword 1

Feats:
L1 Power Attack , Practicier Spellcaster
L3 Arcane Preparation
L6 Empower Spell

Spells
L1 Shield, True Strike, Ray of Enflebement,
L2 Scorthing Ray, Lesser Luminous Armor

The problem is that I do not know what to do next. Since Abjurant Champion is banned, EK or SS give me less CL....

Sincerely, every other option does not look good to me, so any help&critique is welcomed.

Also I have 19,000 gold to spend. Other than the Mithril of the Dawn Armor, I`m a bit clueless with the million magic items at my disposal  :plotting

If webstuff is allowed, look at Swiftblade. It is hilarious fun times. If that's not allowed, you are probably best served by the Eldritch Knight PrC from the DMG. Super boring, but I don't think anything else is really very good to you.

Seriously though, push hard for Swiftblade, it's awesome.
What would you think if I sang out of tune?

Doesn't Swiftblade lose like 3 Caster levels? That, plus the 2 you're losing from Paladin, means you can only get 7th level spells.
I'm not arguing, I'm explaining why I'm right.

I mean, sacred exorcist is ok with 3/4 BAB.

Swiftblade is great, but be ready with being mostly a martial character with all the lost spell levels.  I played a paladin 2/sorcerer 6/Swiftblade to 5 I think.  It was still effective with a random solid fog to divide opponents before slaughtering one at a time with wraithstrike and arcane strike, but the spellcasting paled in comparison to the wizard and the druid in the party.

First, thanks all for all the answers. Swiftblade is out of limits, I can only use those refered books :(

Phaedrusxy, you are suggesting eliminating the Paladin Levels, and getting to Battle Sorcerer. Interesting

I like the Paladin for roleplaying reasons, and access to Luminiscent Armor, but the adventure is going to be difficult (DM words) and we need to be powerful.

Sacred Exorcist looks good as an exiting PRC. A related question, is any way to qualify for it without losing the first level 5 spell slot to Dispel Evil or Dismissal ?

BattleSorcerer4/SpellSword1/BS5/SE10

At caster level 5, I go to Sacred Exorcist, since I havent lost any CL, straight at level 10. I eliminate the need for Practicied Spellcaster feat.

The stats looks good, or should I lower STR and bump CHA and CON ?

I'd put your STR to 12, then spend a stat up on it so you qualify for Power Attack. Arcane Strike + Wraithstrike + Power Attack lets you channel your inner Phreak for Tons of Damage.

You can get (Greater) Luminous Armor if you really want it, by taking the Arcane Preparation feat. It might be worth it, as there are a few other Sanctified spells that are decent (Ayalla's Radiant Burst, Amber Sarcophagus, etc) and IIRC taking this feat should open up all of those as possibilities. Arcane Preparation also opens up the possibility of using Quicken Spell.

Take Sentinel of Bharrai from BOED and go to town. It has uber bear polymorphy (talk to you DM to see if you can take natural spell or something similar to bearcast), and it has a Lay on Hands that is actually better than the paladin. And it's full caster.

Remember, you don't actually need a base stat of X to meet a stat prereq of X - you need X stat (like 13 STR for Power Attack) to use this feat.  This means you can use temporary sources, like consumables and continuous items (and spells, etc.) to meet requirements.

Oh yeah, I remember thinking this looked pretty awesome.

IIRC you can talk in bearform. No nat spell necessary.
