You know, in most fantasy media you never hear of spellcasters covering themselves in dozens of spells before taking a step outside their hiding spots. It can also slug down the game when half the players have dozens of extra conditions running.
So here's an half-random idea I had:
-All benefical spells (plus summons, charms, dominates, and anything else that grants you new resources) with a duration other than instantaneous or permanent now last 1 minute, unless they had a duration that was both smaller and non-dependant on caster level smaller already, like the 1-round swift buffs.
-Extend spell is now a feat that anyone can take. It allows the character to keep a 1 minute spell going forever as long as they spend a swift or move action every round focusing on it. You can never have more than one extend spell going at a time. Extend rods no longer exists.
-Persist spell is now a feat that anyone can take, provided they have Extend spell. It allows the character to keep a 1 minute spell going until you dismiss it as an immediate action, without need of concentration. You can never have more than one Persist spell going at a time, but you can have both a Persist and Extended spell going simultaneously. Persist rods no longer exist.
There, now casters can't just go dumpster diving for long-duration buffs, or build up armies of charmed/dominated minions (at least at low levels, something like mass charm monster could still be extended/persisted). Game also runs smoother and doesn't screech to an halt the moment somebody tries to dispel a character. Casters can still keep a few of those going at a time, but now noncasters can also make buffs last longer.
Thoughts?
EDIT: And seems like I posted this on the wrong forum. Could a mod please move it to the general homebrew area?
