One Unlawyered Wish.
« on: August 18, 2014, 11:10:18 AM »
So, a friend is playing a binder1/archivist3/anima mage 4 at the moment and has been granted one unlawyered wish. Neither of us have any idea what he should wish for, since his character is still low-mid level and really, aside from a blessed book, there isnt a whole lot his character would need to be survivable. The campaign seems to be more rp heavy as well rather than the usual hack n slash type campaign. That, and the campaign itself is random as hell with plenty of cameos and references to other popular fiction (like a portal opening up to the empty void of space with some x-wings and tiefighters duking it out in the background ;p )

Anyway, with all that said, what would you guys pick at this point in the game? Currently the players are building a settlement so the whole found a city is probably on its way already, possibly with an empire to follow, who knows with how random this campaign is. The GM seems to be ok with most things as long as it isnt too overpowered/gamebreaking.

thanks ahead of time.

Seeing as how your friend is playing a build with a sizable amount of MAD (Archivist = INT & WIS, Binder = CHA, while CON & DEX is needed for survival and performance), it would probably be smart to allocate that Wish to giving an Inherent Bonus to one of the more challenged Mental stats.

Disagree, a +1 bonus is not worth it especially when MAD...

The best use of an unlawyered wish?  More wishes, even if those a then lawyered. :D

Obsidian Steed
Cube of Force
Cloak of the Bat

are all fun and modestly powerful

A Blessed Book with all the spells you expect to need is spiffy.

What about a Staff of wish, fully charged?

I like the ability to  "undo any one thing" from the Deck of Many Things.

Free True Resurrection next time you die --  or maybe that you have the power of a lich's pyhlactery.

Amulet of Spell Conversion so you can spontaneously cast any spell from your spell book.

How about that everyone detects his alignment as whatever is best in the situation, and never question any contradictions about it?

Unlawyered Wish?

Wish to be able to cast all his known spells spontaneously while still keeping the ability to add new spells to his book like a wizard.

thanks for the great ideas guys! If you have any more then keep them coming! The MAD isn't so BAD since he took the academic priest feat, the other stats can be buffed and persisted. (sirine's grace, bite of the werebear, etc.)

If the campaign is RP heavy then why not wish for a new vestige (ideally for an already met NPC to become a new Vestige)? Useful to the binder (who'll be the only binder in existence who knows about the new Vetsige) and great for roleplaying (as he discovers the new vestige's visible sign and, eventually, the results of making a poor pact!). You can have great fun redesigning the NPC and basing their new characteristics on the their past interactions with the group.
so an Elf, a Dwarf and Treant walk into a bar...

Pet demon.

No really.  Like a devil or a demon forced to serve who lives in a bottle.  Wacky roleplay antics, sounds thematic and interesting to the GM, and any demon/devil who you could like, have roleplay antics with would be hella powerful at that level.  Pick a succubus, and suddenly you're an evil warlock!  Pick a Balor, and you suddenly have a hella cool trump card that is super dangerous to you!  Pick a Bone Devil and you have a personal psychotic demon assassin, etc.

What about a pseudonatural minion, such as a Balor or Succubus or Glabrezu or Solar?

Miracle has slightly more details as to what is "above" normal use, than Wish.
Might provide a slightly better guideline for you, or your DM.

I would assume any 9th level spell/power would be on the table for this,
preferably something that otherwise wouldn't be available.

Say like tagging Orcus with an auto-success Apopsi.
Or an Ancient Dragon stays asleep for you, and their Breath Weapon doesn't work.

Your codpiece is a mimic.

I need to know your goals.

I would do this...

Get a cave. A large cave. A very geologically stable cave. Pay some dwarves to reinforce the cave. Get a big pair of doors. Seal that cave.

Go inside. Start writing things on the walls. Hire a Bard. Have him write a huge epic that results in peace and prosperity for the surrounding area and the reason for it is you. Relate how you (the hero) come across the artifacts of power, how the trials are harsh but for some reason events always unfold for your benefit. Make the bard write it as some sort prophetic story. Feel free to encourage him to write himself into it as the prophet who wrote it. Have him outline how he then wandered off to have a life that was happy and long.

Then make him include that he (the prophet) immediately forgets that he wrote any of this. Tell him it's for his own safety. Then go over it one more time, then wish the following:

I wish that starting one minute after I complete this wish, As far as I understand the terms wish, one, minute, and complete, that the prophecy on the walls would start to come true, as far as I understand the terms prophecy, walls, and true, and be fufilled in a manner that causes the least amount of disruption and loss possible, as far as I understand the terms fufilled, disruption and loss, while proceeding in a fashion that is slow and sensible so as to assure that this area will know peace and prosperity for a thousand years to come, as far as I understand the terms slow, sensible, area, peace, prosperity and years, so that me and my decendents will be this lands protectors for generations to come, as far as I understand the terms me decendents, land's protectors, and generations.

Then the bard forgets his part in any of this and goes off to live a happy life somewhere else. You seal the cave, then enjoy a thousand years of good luck and prosperity.

There is no such thing as an unlawyered wish. Trust me. It's a TRAP.
