Shandien draws his blade and holding his sunrod high, in similar fashion to Dunor, dispels many of the landing's shadows cast by the many webs. Following the paths others have wrought through the webs, the group moves further into the room.

Galadren loads another bolt into his crossbow while he struggles to remember more about the hanging man dying before them. "This may be the missing Guard Captain...Kartanis Harrowleaf" the name coming off his lips as oddly familiar.

Tanthalus and Dunor see a small leather pouch lying on the floor in the rooms corner covered by a significant amount of webbing. The elf's face is a rictus of pain and his eyes bulge, almost unseeing through the haze that coats them. Through his open mouth, his words hardly perceptible at this point through the choking gurgle in his throat, "Ple..ease..ffind..my son..Get....Thur..nan...out"

Having been unable to understand the exchange in goblinoid (a frustrating experience given he used to be able to speak that language), and a little uncertain on where he stood on the issue of what to do with the two . . . unusual . . . prisoners, Galadren had kept his mouth shut.  However, as the group entered the next room and Galadren caught sight of the figure webbed to the back wall, he found much less reason to be silent.

"Yeah, it has to be Kartanis . . . we need to get him down!"

The elf argues, pushing closer to the center of the room, although he is still on his guard as he weaves his way through the worst of the web-obscured parts of the room.

"Kartanis!  It's Galadren - do you remember me!?"

Something under the skin of Kartanis' neck ripples the disappears paralyzing him before he can speak again. "Yoou..died.. Soo..much...paain....Gala..arrrrrggh", he gasps out his last breaths before gush of blood and ichor bursts from his mouth disgorging spiders. Hundreds of tiny spiders pour forth from his mouth, or burst from the skin on the elf's bloated neck and chest. Streaming out with voracious hunger at those nearest.

The first spiders pouring forth from the Captain's body bite at Thespias, their virulent poison burning his insides. He steps back into the webbing but is agile enough to  avoid the strands while bringing forth his power. Those few spiders' bodies are smashed under the weight of the thunderous noise.

Clattering up from the stairwell below a chitinous being clicks its mandibles together in excitement as it brandishes a long sharp spear. "Good...Gooood! The brood will grow strong feeding on this prey." It's spinnerets working independently creating a blob of the sticky stuff which it then launches at Galadren before lunging with it's longspear at the elf.


The bulk of the spiders swarm over Tanthalus biting repeatedly.

While Galadren could not remember everything he had been through, his past had hardened him.
His skills, reflexes, and instincts were still there, and they had all endured the horrors of war.
Even so, the sight of the friend he had just remembered dissolving from the inside out into a swarm of spiders . . . unnerved him.

"What the -"

The elf began what was about to be an explicative-laden diatribe, only to be cut off by the arrival of the spiderman, throwing a net over him and jabbing him with a spear.  As the elf struggled to reach his boot dagger to cut his way free, he glared at the being through the webbing that seemed to be responsible for the spiders.

"You're dead!"

The elf promised.

The elf manages to reach his blade, and the dagger flashes as it slices apart the webbing holding him.  Dropping the dagger back into his boot, the elf leaps to one side, tumbling down the narrow pathway that had been left relatively web free.  As he comes back up to his feet, the crossbow is in his hands, firing at the spiderman.

The bolt strikes the chitinous plates and the softer flesh underneath drawing a line of blood on the creature.

Tanthalus moves to the edge of the swarm, then holds out his holy symbol and focuses on it.  A glow starts to emanate from it, filling almost the whole room before it dissipates.

The divine light sears the life from a huge swath of spiders and burns the Chitinous creature with the spear as two more of the chitinous spiderlike creatures descend the stairwell moving from ceiling to floor with ease among the webs. One grabs a handful of strands and whips them out at Galadren,  holding the elf fast, while the other wades in swinging a large axe in two of its claws.

Dunor looks to Tanthalus and nods as the blast of divine light draws the swarming spiders' attention. He then swipes with his dual-ended blade, contrasting the force of the cleric's blast with the force of his strike with the bugs caught in the middle. He then steps back, away from the swarm, to figure out his next move.
