"No guarantees they're the ones that had Kartanis's son, but it seems better than the alternative."

(What's in the hallway to the south?  A set of stairs?  West looks like it leads off to the last bit of this level, judging from the dungeon map.)

Looking into both exits from the room, the west stairwell leads up steeply, while the stairwell to the south leads down into a short hall. You can make out that the hall veers back to the west.

Galadren checks his crossbow one last time, and then turns to look at Dunor.

"Shall we?"

The elf then begins to ascend the steps to the west, moving slowly and cautiously - two of those spider freaks had come from this way.  So there certainly could be more of them - or something worse.  Probably worse.

Climbing a long stair upwards you see the top of the ascent is illuminated by the glow of firelight. You hear the grunting tones of its goblinoid occupants. Thespias translates the sounds as things like "Ready yerselves." and "Their comin' up the stairs.". You also here a couple hisses and low shrieks of one or more drakes. You realize the light from the sunrods you carry have alerted them to your approach.

The group charges up the stairs. Those glancing down see runes on risers in an older form of common that spell out Von Ardez Kauthin. As the first two begin to reach the top they see a pair of hobgoblins ready for them on each side of the room. Two drakes hiss and scramble forward on all fours. The reptilian creatures spew forth spittle at Dunor and Galadren as they mount the breech.

Ducking under the wad of acidic spittle that comes flying down the stairs at him, Galadren breaches the top of the stairway firing.
The hobgoblins to the south were the closest thing within Galadren's line of sight as he reaches the top of the stairs, so he focuses on them.
His eyes locked on the hobgoblin standing slightly back, Galadren's first bolt flies out as he reaches the top of the stairs.
Immediately the elf reloads in a blur of motion and fires again, this bolt exploding into a swarm of stinging fireflies.

(I am assuming that Brot in I7 is the closest target that Galadren can see from his current position.  If not, re-direct all of these shots to whatever is the closest target that he can see from his start point.)

Dunor hesitates for a moment before rushing in. He looks to the top of the staircase, where a shrouded figure leans in, turns back to Dunor, and shakes his head.

The warrior tilts his head toward the sorcerer. Quietly, he asks, "Theo, any chance you can put on a light show for the Hobgoblins while I rush the drakes?"

Despite the halflings' assurance that it would be no problem, he was far from the truth as the arc of lightning went way of target, the volatile energies instead scorching black marks into the stone floor.

Dunor walks purposefully up the stairs brandishing his dual-ended blade with careful intent. Now fully seeing the contents of the room, he braces for an ambush. The warrior bides his time, then strikes when the moment presents itself!

Both hobgoblins leap over the dismally aimed lightning blast mark and charge toward the stairs when Dunor enters. One slashes low while the other high. Dunor intercepts both but to late for the high blade to keep it from nicking him badly on the brow. Dunor rolls with the blow and spinning catchs the other hobgoblin in the stomach with his backward thrust and twisting the blade out with his turn, rips open the ruined belly spilling entrails out while completing his turn slashes high with his other blade. The remaining hobgoblin backs a step and raises his shield in time to deflect the incoming blade.


The door at the back of the room flies open and in strids a ridiculously dressed goblin. Little animal skulls dangling from its braided hair. In its hand is a bone rod topped with a small skull ties loosely by a frayed rope so that every time it moves the rod the skull flops around on the top. Is udilates its body and swings its arms widly in a sort of casting dance.

A greasy cloud of smoke envelopes the area Dunor stands in and even drifts into the stairwell to caress Galadrena and Thespias with its dark touch.

Shandien leaps up the steps taking two and a time and races into the cloud. With a thunderous boom the Genasi launches an attack with his blade the rattles the walls and drops the hobgoblin to the stone.

Before doing anything else, Tanthalus says a word of benediction to strengthen Dunor as well as the rest of his companions.  He then moves into the enveloping cloud of smoke and prays to Amaunator to help him smite his enemies.

The burning light sheers down from above searing the scales on the drake. The same light also envelopes the nearby swordmage.
