Dunor enters the dark room to hear Theo's rant and see that the halfling's hair has begun to stand on end and little sparks appear around him. The human can make out several prone bodies on the floor in the light of a tossed sunrod. Tanthalus is nowhere to be seen.

Shandien races off into the darkness toward the wererats and unleashes a swing with his electrified blade that trails in magical power, blasting both prone lycanthropes.

Galadren struggles to keep the anger from his voice - and fails.

"You . . . idiots.  If you had just surrendered, we would have had mercy.  Now?  Now we're going to see how loud you can squeak before you die."

Moving around to one of the spots of light in the room, Galadren takes careful aim past Shandien's hip at the fallen wererat in the light.  His target is a sensitive part of the wererat's anatomy that is within sight, rather than a more fatal location to place a crossbow.  Right now Galadren wanted these miserable creatures to suffer before they died.

Shadows envelope the warlock once more, and Tulugaq enters into the darkness, whispering curses as he proceeds. The brutish wererat writhes in pain on the floor of the shrine.

Galadren lets fly a bolt that hits something in the darkness with a dull wooden thunk.

After the shot the wererat swipes his sword at Shandien to keep the swordmage at bay long enough to stand and atkes a few quick stabs at the human. While the brute stop writhing and pulls himself to his feet using the nearby pew then takes a large cudgel swing at Shandien's head, drawing a dull thud of its own as it smashes into his target.

  and both rats take teh curse damage

Tanthalus is also consumed by rage. He makes sure his allies remain protected and then lashes out with the fury of his god to strike this creature down.

The holy light singes the creatures fur.

Thespias, charged emotionally by all the death of the last few days, breaks and throws lightning arcs with abandon at the wererats. blasting holes in the floor, wall, and pew near the target in his blind rage.

Deciding that he'd be better served aiming to kill this time, Galadren centers his crossbow's sights on the chest of the wererat Dunor just stabbed and pulls the trigger after ramming a fresh bolt home.  If it falls, he shifts his focus on to the last wererat.  One down, one to go . . .

The brutish wererat begins another swing of its cudgel when it locks eyes with the shadowy warlock, which burns into his soul.

The bolt leaves Galadren's crossbow and sinks into the wererat's chest, knocking it back a step is falls over the back of the pew and ends its lifeless descent to the floor in a crumpled heap.

The remaining wererat, now surrounded and seeing it's end near, fights like a cornered animal and ferally begins swinging its club around at anything that moves. A fatal act, as Shandien deftly deflects the oncoming blows and sends a shock of lightning into the lycanthrope, ending its life.

The shrine itself has a dismal light about it, deep purple and throbbing; having the effect of both bringing a small amount of light and yet not enough to see things by in it's small sphere of influence before receding to almost black. At the foot of the black obelisk, you can make out that several objects at its base.

Sighing now that this long, long running battle seemed to finally be over - seriously, it felt like it had taken years to finish (  :lmao ) - Galadren went into clean-up mode.  He checked each of the wererats corpses, making absolutely sure that they were all dead with a swift cut across the throat with his dagger.  This accomplished, he returned to Sertanien's body, looking down at the old man with another sigh.  In what was rapidly becoming a bad habit, Galadren sliced off one of the man's thumbs, wrapping it up and tucking it safely in his backpack alongside the guard captain's thumb.  If there was still magic that could bring the dead back to life (and Galadren was living proof that it did still exist), Galadren would find it and bring them both back to the living.  But first, he still had some work to do.

"Shandien, think you can come with me and check on their leader's body?  We dropped him, but ran back here before checking his body.  Judging by those parting comments he made on his way out, he had something on him from this place.  I'd like to know what that was.  Rest of you see if there's any of those relics that are still missing in this room - and maybe figure out a way to turn the light back on in here."

Leaving the rest of the party to it, Galadren cautiously went back out to the demon room, where the leader's body was (hopefully!) still crumpled against one wall.  Galadren thoroughly searches the leader's body, and if possible, with Shandien's help drags the leader back to the room, dumping him on top of the mound of his fallen followers (after slitting his throat just to be sure as well).

Can I make a knowledge check to determine whether or not blasting the shrine is a bad idea?

Galadren's search of the small wererat's corpse reveals a small dagger and a pouch of some coins at his belt. Another pouch has some odds and ends, probably reagents for casting his spells. In a small pack you find a black book with a small piece of charcoal dangling from a cord attached to it., a wine skin of fetid water, half eaten and moldy rations and a blanket with numerous holes.

Dunor lets the edge of his sword scrape along the stone floor as he walks through the room. The chaos seems finally to be over, but it does not feel like a victory. Returning his blade to its enclosure, the warrior steps carefully to where Sertranian lay fallen. He bundles the man's body, then hefts him up to carry back to town.

"Too many friends and allies have died these past few days... Hmm."

His face sullen, he soon adds, "We should return to town as soon as we are able. We have the other survivors to check on, and no doubt the townsfolk will want to know what happened here."
