Willing Sacrifice: Worth the investment?
« on: September 30, 2014, 09:54:37 PM »
I had a more extensive post written up, but I was AFK for a little bit and I lost the post when I tried to log in. Anyway, as the title asks, if I were to invest in boosting the  damage of Willing Sacrifice (Deal 1d10 vs. Willing Evil Creature, Gain 1/2 Damage as an expendable Profane Bonus) would the possible bonus be worth it? I thought of using Chain Spell, if that didn't create separate "instances" and allowed me to compound the damage dealt.

Then use it in say... a Knowledge [Religion] check for a sacrifice as per BoVD, and attain a ton of XP to blow on spells that demand it?

Things that come to mind immediately are:

- [Empower Spell]
- [Enervate Spell]
- [Maximize]
- [Heighten]
- [Black Lore of Moil]
- [Blistering Spell]

In conjunction with a pumped up CL, maybe 80th for a bit of fun, I came up with (1d10 + 9d6 + 28) for the roll, so 92 is the upper limit. The result would be (96) + (79 x 48) for the total damage dealt, and the equation for the bonus generated would be (104) + (52 x 20) for an upper limit of a +1944 Profane bonus to spread over 80/rnds or blow it on one go like that Kn:[Religion] for Dark XP (DC x 3).

Any thoughts?

Class Boosters has a section on Spell Augmentation.

Basically, Snowcast to add the [Cold] Subtype allowing you to use Energy Substitution(fire) for that Blistering Spell you wish you had & a Ring of Mystic Fire (+4d6). Energy Admixture[electricity] (x2) to toss in a Ring of Mystic Lightning (+4d6). Then run it all through Cold Spell Specialization, Cold Snap, and Warmage for +6 per die rolled to make things nuts. There is more of course, but you get the idea.

Also, checking your math.
The Spell deals 1d10.
Black Lore & Heighten is +5d6.
1d10+5d6 Maximized is 40.
1d10+5d6 Empowered is +50% of the rolled value, avg +11.5 (=51.5).
Blistering & Heighten is +18 (=69.5)
Enervate applies an end result of +50% (=104.25).
You should have came out to 104 to your primary target and 52 to your secondaries.
And you can have a maximum of 20 secondary targets through Chain Spell (ack, missed that).
So 1,144 damage.

Oh, and Sadism gives +1 Luck per 10 damage dealt on your next turn...

It's already very MM intensive to get it to this point, but if I used [Fell Energy] with Sadism (+3 Luck/10 Damage), and actually managed to get it to affect more than 20 targets... it would be quite lovely. Failing that, if I had 20 beefy supplicants to use for this and I were able to pump that damage with features like Smiting Spell (Fiendblooded) that added damage to it without further pushing that adjustment, that could also work!

But chaining it further reduces the damage, so I'll look into modifying the area. So far, it would be a total of +546 (Profane) + 343.2 (Luck) totalling 889.  Not quite as impressive as being able to hit 200 targets...  :P

Wizard shares Fiendform with his familiar to get the spell requirements, true red via shadowcraft mage cheese.

also giving it the fire subtype would increase the damage quite a bit

Kudos, for getting into Nanobots range on 1st go round with this.
Also uses a smidge of Omniscificer stuff.

Get more CLs via Mind Mage, or similar shenanigans.
Mention SirP's cl loop build here.

Still hammering away at this, but would Energy Vulnerability have some use in this? An extra 50% isn't too shabby for my purposes, as long as it actually contributes to the bonus.
