I need to get me a baking pan.

Now, should I get clay, metal, or glass? All of them have pros and cons...

I'm pretty much deciding what my career will be in a couple of days.

My basic options are Law, Publicity and PR. Mostly for economic reasons...

So my options are basically...

- Go into a job - any job - with an inherently flawed system that's being systematically torn apart by government agencies.
- Perfect my ability to lie to people to the point where they'll buy anything. This, of course, when I hate hypocrisy and have spent the better part of the past five years forging a policy of truth for myself.
- Become a small-scale diplomat, minus the travelling, and making sure the image of some company or another remains squeaky clean regardless of what kind of policies they employ. So, lying again, or at the very least picking my words extraordinarily carefully - something I'm not very good at.

All this while aware that my anxiety over the issue is likely coloring my perception. I'm probably seeing ghosts here. I don't want to choose, but I HAVE to.
Have you spent any time shadowing or working with people actually doing those things? I was confident I wanted to be a lawyer right up until I spent a summer working in a law office and actually seeing what those guys do every day (At which point I got out like a streak of depressed, overweight lightning). Every job has a reputation, but the day-to-day is what really makes or breaks it.

Also, if it makes a difference, the PR guys I know spend way more time forcing companies to change their policies than they do spinning said policies. (The most greasy PR guy I know doesn't really spin anything, he spends his time coming up with band-aid policies for the companies; you know the type, 'We regret our exploitation of the local workforce, but look at our awesome daycare!")(still not great, but they're about fixing, not lying. Though I'll bet there still are plenty of PR guys who do basically lie, it could easily vary by industry, location, and scale).

You people talk too much, it's hard to keep up with this thread.   :p
Yuuup

As far as Law is concerned, well...

I used to study it, my mom's been a judge for well over 30 years, basically the whole goddamn family went into it with the exception of a couple of uncles of mine, I was an intern at the Brazillian equivalent of the D.A.'s office...

As far as publicity goes, I've got a couple of friends who majored in it, so I've got their word for it.

PR is basically the only one where I'm presuming that's how things go.

I dreamt I was making lasagne and now I want to do that. But I don't have any of the ingredients, not even flour. :lmao

You like to make your own pasta? Bravo.

Generally when any sort of pasta, i only cook the ingredients & sauce, and buy the pasta itself pre-made. It just saves a lot of trouble.

I don't like working with flour, it just tends to leave too much of a mess to clean up afterwards.

Huh? The flour wouldn't be for making pasta, it would be for the sauce.

Also I have no baking utensils, which is another obstacle. :lmao

Have you considered contract law? Or is that not an option?

Contract law is not as big a branch of law here in Brazil as it is in the USA because here we use the Civil Law system as opposed to the Common Law one.

To make the big bucks, one would have to specialize in international contracts, as those are much more complicated, as they often involve needing to learn two completely different legal systems and being able to work around both of them simultaneously.

In all honesty, the most profitable area of law here in Brazil is undoubtedly Taxes. If you can specialize in it, you'll be rich in no time. We have, like, 100+ different taxes, and they all have specific laws and regulations. Extensive laws and extensive regulations. Work in that area mostly concerns finding and exploiting loopholes in said laws and regulations in order to exempt companies from paying taxes, or paying less taxes, and that can be extremely profitable for said companies. Therefore, specializing in it can rake in the big bucks.

It would be a different option; it sounds (at least to me) that you leaned more towards being a barrister than a solicitor (trial vs. contract/civil disputes).

I mean, I'm pretty sure contract law is more "stable" than trial law, if only because a civil society is built on those contracts.

I make my own pasta occasionally, but it's worth noting that both dried AND fresh are useful.  Also, you're using flour for a tomato sauce?  Huh?  You shouldn't need it if you're doing it right ;)

Pasta's not really difficult to make, you know.  It's just egg, oil, and flour.  The flour type IS important you should note.  But all you really need to do it whisk the eggs and oil together, and then incorporate it into the flour.  Then knead.  Then roll it out, and cut!  Cooks in less than 5 minutes, as opposed to 15 for dry.

Lasagne! Lasagne! The sauce on top is, traditionally, bechamel sauce--flour, butter, milk. If I have no flour, I can't make the sauce to go on top. This is why I'm mentioning the flour, not  the mince.

Cooking time of a sheet of lasagne doesn't really seem terribly important, to me.

I think, mentally, I'm almost back where I was two years (up to a year and a half) ago. Bad course organisation, lack of any real guidance, and I honestly don't like the subjects. Practically speaking, it's better than it was, but I don't want to slide into total apathy again, and at this rate I will long before the December exams.

Plus last time I didn't have any sort of money supply and wasn't, at first, able to buy booze. Plus I didn't have any ID until the end of the year. Now...

In what sense? What branch of law?

He's probably referring to criminal defense.

Yeah, we have those. Criminal law is fun. I like it a lot.
