Been trying to ask a girl from work out for a couple months.

First problem is that while we work in the same building we don't actually interact in a professional sense more than once every couple of weeks so all my interactions have been in the staff room.
Second is that she is quite shy around me.
Third is that one of her friends is basically her shadow.

So basically after a long time of waiting for the perfect moment, when I have her alone to ask her out. No such luck.

Today I caved and took the cowards way out and sent her a facebook message asking her to see a movie. Not the coolest move but I had few options left.

That was 2 hours ago, I know she has read the message (last online 12 minutes ago) but hasn't responded. Its making me paranoid.

I hope it doesn't end like the last time I asked someone out, 7 years ago now. She basically ripped my heart out in front of a huge crowd and crushed my self esteem so badly that it has taken that long to recover.

You're gonna be okay. Worst that'll happen is she'll say no for whatever reason.

Don't let an (admittedly) awful experience shape up how you see things happening. Could be she's just as hesitant to say yes as you were asking her out. Could really be ANYTHING, so don't spend your time wondering what might be. Watched kettle never boils and whatnot.

Okay, not the best possible outcome, but still beats someone crushing your heart in public, doesn't it?

After over 24 HOURS without energy, finally, it came back on.

A torrential rainstorm took us by surprise last night, and then today again. Over 240mm of rain... In three hours.

Then it rained again.

We get at least four of those per autumn here. Sometimes with back-to-back unending rain.  :p

Yes, it's nearly as bad here sometimes, too... Unfortunately.

We get 6 months dry, and then 6 months downpour.

It's a freakish weather.

Actually, i live in the middle of of the Brazilian Plateau (Planalto Central), which is basically a high plains (about 1000m over the ocean).

I don't know too much about why it rains so much around here, but i do know it has something to do with the fact that nearly every river in Brazil passes through some of the land here, or near here. (And we have a fuckton of rivers)

Half the year, it doesn't rain a drop. And i mean it. It doesn't rain at all, not a single drop. Then it starts to get moists... We start to see clouds again. Some small rains, nothing special... Then they get bigger. And when you think the rain couldn't become worse, IT DOES. An entire week goes by where there's only a couple hours between insane downpours. You're lucky if you can get a single day where it doesn't rain at all.

Despite everything functioning like clockwork every single fucking year... The government doesn't do anything to help the floods, especially in the poorest parts of the city.

There's a video floating around of a guy literally JETSKIING in a flooded street about 25km~ of where i live. ( Link: https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=827314027333457 )

I deal with power outages every single year. It's normal, this part of the year.

It has *NEVER* been this bad, though. I remember some times where it was most of a day, but never over 24 hours.

Flooding is getting worse and worse every year. Thankfully, we don't have slopes, because if we did, we would have to deal with landslides, like they do in the South/Southeast.

If we did have worse natural disasters than a big rain, we would have possibly already been wiped out, if we had to depend on the government doing anything.

There are no mountain ranges in Brazil.

At most, we get like the occasional peak.

Except those aren't mountains.

The denomination arises from the meeting of tectonic plates. We are smack in the middle of one of those.

So....Mauna kea isn't a mountain?  The tallest mountain on Earth isn't a mountain?  Mountains can from in the middle of tectonic plates.  It's called a volcano.  Also, the reason Brazilia gets seasonal rains has to do with the forest to the north and the fact that it's in the middle of essentially a plains.  Much like the Savannah, that makes the rains come seasonally, when it's got the right conditions (usually winter, when the water can condense more readily).  The reason Sao Paulo gets steady rain throughout the year is because it's on the ocean side of a mountain range, and right on the coast.  The winds from the ocean bring in moist air and drop it down fairly steadily throughout the year.  And the mountain range (yes, it's absolutely a mountain range.  3 km is not a LOT but it's a significant enough difference) stops the winds and rains from going too far in, forcing them up which causes them to condense out into precipitation.  And finally, because it's Brazil, there's forests everywhere and the deciduous forests literally make their own rain.
