TWF Warblade minimal cheese.
« on: October 24, 2014, 07:45:59 AM »
So I'm thinking of making a TWF Warblade.  I don't want to do any dips, just straight Warblade.

Starting off at level 9.  Can take up to 2 flaws.  Race is open, though I typically play a drow or wood elf.   Stats were rolled with 5d6 rerolling 1s and taking best 3, 3 times.

18 17 17 15 15 13

By "minimal cheese" I'd prefer not to use aptitude kukris with lightning mace type stuff to build on to.    It isn't for an optimized play style, but more fun with flavor.   Maybe a Jack B Quick styled warblade?

So Starting off at level 9 what race/skills/feats/maneuvers should I take?  I'm gonna assume Blood in Water and Punishing stance are the givens for my stance choices.

Also what gear?  Kukris?  Bastard Swords?  Celestial Armor?  Anklets of translocation?

By "no dips" does that also include no prestige classes?  Bloodclaw Master is one of the best TWF PrCs.

I'll have to look into Bloodclaw Master and get approval.  I think we are limited to base classes to start though.  Someone wanted to go Incantrix and I think was told no.

Incantatrix is definitely one of the PrCs to regularly get banned since it's far too easy to break the game with metamagic spells.  Bloodclaw Master is a very different beast since it just makes the character do better damage and get a few fun perks like a base speed boost and Scent and such.  The shifting gained from it isn't something to write home about, but it's still useful.  You'll likely be going with kukris as weapons, but do make note of how many things are not subject to critical hits due to their type and all that.

Wild or wood elves will work fine, though the Int hit might hurt you since Int is the main mental state for warblades.  If you have to play Drow with the full LA+2 then it's not worth it for a warblade.

A full list of LA+0 races can be found at http://www.minmaxboards.com/index.php?topic=1281.0 if you want to look through it to find something that'd hopefully work for you.

So no suggestions for a straight warblade build?

It sounds like you know what you want, and have decent knowledge of the rules. How about you build something and we can then critique it?

Basically with TWF, you're going to be wanting to focus on boosts and counters, as most strikes cannot be used as part of a full attack. The Diamond Mind saving throw counters are great.

You'll probably want some way to boost your damage also, which unless you have a bard in the party is tricky. You could pick up the Shadow Hands magic item, then take Martial Stance (Assassin's Stance) and Shadow Blade. You'll of course also want either Weapon Finesse or a set of Feycrafted weapons.
I don't pee messages into the snow often , but when I do , it's in Cyrillic with Fake Viagra.  Stay frosty my friends.

He wants to use Warblade, he'll be fine :p

Going Dex based is a good idea, GTWF requires a 19. So maybe go 18 Dex, 17 Str,  17 Con, 15 Int, 15 Cha, 13 Wis and either by Feycraft weapons or pick up Weapon Finesse. After you get a couple levels pick up Martial Stance(assassin's stance) & Shadow Blade. You'll have Str, Dex, and Int to damage when using a dagger, sai, siangham, short sword, spiked chain, or unarmed strike.

Tiger Claw has a couple TWF specific Maneuvers so be sure to check those. In addition a Maneuver granting item for Desert Wind is a nice quick DPR boost, the <fire synonym here> Blade boosts add +1d6/+3d6 & +IL fire damage with every hit. In other words by level 7 you can add +2d6+7 to all four of your attacks (+56 avg/allhit).

Okay so as level 9 Warblade.

Str 17 Dex 20 Con 16 Int 18 Wis 15 Cha 14

Feats from Warblade: Improved Initiative, Quick Draw

Stances: Blood in the Water, Punishing Stance

Maneuvers: Iron Heart Surge, Leading the Attack, Mind Over Body, Moment of Perfect Mind, Sudden Leap

Normal Feats: Combat Reflexes, Double Hit, TWF, ITWF, Weapon Finesse

Any suggestions for what to change if anything?  I also have 2 flaws, and 1 feat open at the moment.  I can ditch a flaw if no feats would be that beneficial.

What armor/weapons/magic items should I should for?

Ermmm... Stormguard Warrior's Combat Rythm works wonders with 2WF. And Double hit is useful with Channel the Storm, too. Elusive Target is also awesome, but feat intensive. Both can work together nicely, punishing enemies for both attacking you or trying to avoid you.

Also, no White Raven Tactics?

That's 5 feats to fit, though, and some of them aren't really great (dodge, mobility). I still think you need some way to boost your damage output or your stickyness.

And yes, for magic items, basically anything that lets you move as a swift or free action should be nice.
