Can someone more knowledgeable in PC's translate this?
« on: November 14, 2014, 01:12:17 AM »
"This computer has rebooted from a bugcheck.  The bugcheck was: 0x0000016 (0xfffffa800be3b270, 0xfffff880049562b0, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000002).  A Dump was saved in C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP.  Report Id:  111314-20264-01

Edit: I was playing on Kongregate when it happened.  A couple hours search hints I need to upgrade my graphics card drivers and maybe spray for dust.  If anyone else has further advice I would be most appreciative.  My PC is my livelihood after all.

Google says...
- It may have to do with a driver you installed.
- It may have to do with insufficient power to a component, either do to overclocking or faulty/aging hardware.

I just skimmed the first couple of hits.

Did it actually say 'bugcheck'? That's not a word I usually associate with actual Windows errors. Also, those errors are almost exclusively on a blackscreen; not inside windows. If it was in a window while your browser was open, I'd guess a scammer had an ad in Kongregate that brought a popup up that looks official, but is a big fat liar.

If you don't have malwarebytes installed, consider getting, and doing a scan with, the free version from their website: malwarebytes.org

good luck.

My screen went completely black, then a blue screen popped up and actually stayed.  I can't remember the gist of it but it implied an error in hardware (motherboard or power supply) or a driver or application failure.  And yes it did say bugcheck, what i quoted was from teh event viewer.

Can you go to the folder it specifies and copy + paste the contents of the dump?
I'm not arguing, I'm explaining why I'm right.

I found a program that lets me peek at blue screen errors and it says this:

Caused By Driver : dxgkrnl.sys
Caused By Address : dxgkrnl.sys+5d134

sounds like graphics card

Glad it's apparently not security related. Hope the update fixes it, but heat is indeed a likely culprit. If your vidcard is dusty, that's an easy fix, but if any fans have been noisy, they may be losing efficiency. Speedfan is a program I've used to check on temps and fan speeds. Its site is almico.com/sfdownload.php

I have speedfan.  GPU temp is 36-47 degrees.

Dxg? Might be a Direct X error, as a guess. But how you could get a 3D rendering thing on Kongregate... and I think Unity uses OpenGL anyway. Hmm.

I was playing Tiny Dice Dungeon, it's definitely not 3d.

That runs on Unity, and Unity is a 3D engine, though.

Ah.  I did just run dxdiag and it found no problems.  Hopefully updating the Nvidia driver has corrected this.
