Need to make a skill monkey 3.5 D&D
« on: December 20, 2014, 10:14:04 PM »
My character is 9th level, and has 36000 GP to spend. My party Consists of a Dragonwrought Kobold Sorcerer, a Warforged Swordsage, and a Cleric of Pelor healbot. Allowed books are official general 3.5 books and Eberron books. We end up facing non-crittable monsters(undead, plants, and constructs) more often than not.

I'm leaning toward a swift hunter, since I have played one before, and it has a decent amount of combat damage. My build for that would be 6 Ranger/3 Scout. Not sure about the race, but I am thinking Air Mephling for the perfect flight speed. Feats would be: Swift Hunter, Point Blank Shot, Precise shot, and greater manyshot. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, and ask any questions you need.

Changeling Rogue substitution levels in Races of Eberron grant 10+int skill points.  You can use Unearthed Arcana to drop all the Sneak Attack in favor of Fighter feats.  Or if you want to keep SA there's the Penetrating Strike ACF in Dungeonscape that trades away a level of Trap Sense for the ability to deal half SA damage against normally immune targets so long as you flank them.  The Darkstalker feat from Lords of Madness allows the character to flank enemies that have all-around vision as well as boost sneakiness in general by forcing Spot or Listen checks for stuff that usually wouldn't need them.

Take a look at the ACF index to see if there's something that jumps out at you and you can use.

Swift Hunter is a viable build with the right favored enemies, and since you've already got experience with it it would seem to be a pretty safe build.

I kinda like this one.

Just tack on 6 levels. The bard's jack of all trades thing makes for a nice skill monkey.
If you have questions about 3.5 D&D, you might want to look at the:

Ok, I like the idea of a Swift Hunter as well. 9 levels to work with, let's see, my first instinct is for a follower of Fharlangh (assuming you are running with the core pantheon since you already have a Cleric of Pelor, Fharlagnh is the only one with the Travel Domain):

(click to show/hide)

Another option is to run a simple Beguiler from Players Handbook 2 that takes 1 level of Mindbender as it's level 6 progression, thereby allowing you to learn a 4th level spell with your Advanced Learning (since you're going to be caster level 8 and not 7 at Beguiler level 7) which is nice. Depending on how longterm you'd like to think, that's a natural lead-in into the Shadowcraft Mage, going something like:
(click to show/hide)

Third is Bard of some sort, though not sure in what direction that character ought to be built...

Bards are fun. Lots of opportunity for mischief and cleverness.

Also look at Incarnate 9. It doubles as a tank, which that group might need, but take care of which skills you need.

Thank you for the input everyone  :)

@Shadowhunter
Thinking of dipping cleric for that sweet sweet travel devotion, my other domain would be undeath for the free extra turning. It would work since I can get a free deathless template(campeign reasons), if I am good aligned divine caster, otherwise I get necropolitan, which might get me fried by the cleric heading into Radiant Servant of Pelor.

@Captrory
I'll look into Bard, thank you.

@Arz
Thanks, I'll look into Incarnate.

Here's Spoony's Video About Barding.  There's a language warning on all his stuff, haha. It's less about mechanics and more about roleplaying and being awesome.
