Troubadour of Stars: Dafuq?
« on: February 02, 2015, 08:46:45 PM »
 :huh

It looks like a relatively decent PrC for Bards who aren't rocking the spellcasting... but surely that 4th level spells is a typo? I mean, seriously, it can otherwise be entered at 4th level, and that basically means that Bards can't take it until really late.

I mean... dayum. That just smacked the PrC with a baseball bat.

10 level PrC and bards get 4th level spells at...  level 10.  Looks like it was intentional.

But all the other prereqs can get you in at 3rd level, and all the Perform prerequisites for the songs granted by the class are stuff like 9 or 12 ranks.

At least it's not Magelord, which is a 10 level PrC one needs 11 levels to qualify for.  DnD writers can't do math, if you haven't caught on yet.  :flutter

Not so. Maybe they knew there were early entry tricks and dared us to finish magelord pre-epic

Or Wizard 8 / Spelldancer 2 / Magelord 10
Or Domain Wizard 6 / Combat Medic 4 / Magelord 10
Or Battle Sorcerer 8 / Sanctified One 2 / Magelord 10
Or seeing how Fearun loves it's Epic Characters around, and it's 3.5 rulebook counterparts extend epic rules, use those.

None-standard Classes are a result from trying to make so many unique variations on paper. You should celebrate it since that is a core element of 3rd and not bitch about it; Otherwise you're just asking for another 4th Edition. Without even looking I'm guessing Troubadour of Stars is designed for multi-class characters isn't it? Maybe a dip into Bard as a CC party-buffing Wizard?

It's... honestly hard to say.

You can't get in via Bard until late, but you can get in with Sorcerer at 8th level (Has to be spontaneous arcane), which still feels weird vis a vis the prerequisites (Perform 6 is higher than the cross-class cap at 8th, after all.)

I guess it's for Sorcerer, then? With maybe a dip into Bard for the ranks of Perform?

The fluff of the class is very much bard-focused.

Quote from: BoED 78
With the exception of Gwynharwyf, who holds her barbarian
champions in special regard, the various lords and knights of
the eladrin Court of Stars do not sponsor individual orders of
followers. Rather, as a group they offer their patronage to certain
mortal bards, granting them the ability to channel their celestial
music through their mortal voices and instruments. These
blessed bards are the troubadours of stars, gifted musicians and
champions of good.
Only a character who spontaneously casts arcane spells can
become a troubadour of stars. Bards are the most common, but
a very few sorcerers take up the eladrins’ mantle as well.
Troubadours of stars tend to wander alone, or as part of a
small band, traveling far and wide across the mortal world.
They strive to bring hope to the hopeless and freedom
to those oppressed or enslaved by tyrants.
Whenever one troubadour encounters
another on her travels, the two exchange
stories and news before continuing on
their separate ways. They are duty-bound
to help each other in times of need, but
rarely seek out extensive contact with
others of their order.
I'm not arguing, I'm explaining why I'm right.

It also says Sorcerer. :p

And I looked it up, it doesn't required Bardic Music, but it can grant Bardic Music. :)
Quote
Bardic Music: A troubadour of stars adds her class level to her bard level, if any, to determine what bardic music abilities she can use and how often she can use them. In addition, her troubadour levels stack with her bard levels for purposes of determining the bonus granted by her bestow courage ability. A troubadour of stars with no bard levels gains bardic music abilities as a bard of her class level.
So a Sorcerer 8 / Troubadour of Stars 10 trades Spellcasting (5/10 progression) for ten levels of Bardic Music (snagging competence +2 & greatness), some Spell-Likes, access to Sanctified Spells, and DR 10/unholy.

It's like the original Prestige Bard.
Except you can use both.

its a shame that warlocks do not qualify   :rolleyes

Eladrin Form sounds fun :D

maybe like a Precocious Sorc 1 / Warlock 4 / Eld Theurge 7 / Trouba 7 / x 1

seems like a lot of work for not a lot of gain... but you get to fly at 150/ perfect / incorporeal and use of your blast.
