WTF is wrong with people?
« on: February 15, 2015, 12:54:01 AM »
I work in auto insurance claims, and every day I hear a completely new level of stupid. Today, I heard the one that I'm pretty sure will last the test of time. I had a lady call in because her car was actively on FIRE and she wanted to know what she should do. There are FLAMES actively shooting out of her car. Not a small amount either. We're talking fully engulfed, and her first thought is to call her insurance company? Not the fire department, her insurance company. So, I will ask again. What the fuck is wrong with people?

Our schools dont teach critical thinking so much as "when something goes wrong you call for help"?

"Hello, my car is on fire, what should I do?"
"Hang up, call 911, and then call me when they've sorted it out."
I'm not arguing, I'm explaining why I'm right.

Except that I am not allowed to tell them to call 911, that is giving advice and I am not allowed to do that. I wound up saying... "Me personally? I would call the fire department and then call my insurance when my car was no longer on fire."

If you ever want to learn how stupid people are get a job at your local dispatching office or EMS. I mean have you ever walked into a room full of CNAs, LPNs and one RN and asked them why they are not doing CPR for the paged-as-choking patient who is currently laying unconscious on the bed. After not getting an answer I asked if they had a pulse.

So the nearby nurse pushed the button on their machine to take a blood pressure.  :eh

Watch this and laugh.

I'm fairly certain that that's not a real story, but...please tell me that's not a real story...

Which one? Mine or Soro's? Because if it's mine, I can lie to you if you want, if it's Soro's... Can't help you. Not my story.

If it's mine, true story.

They also had the balls to bitch about my partner dropping the AED when he was trying to pop the top off. The premortuary this happened has had more than one state visit if you catch my drift.

Baad's and Soro's ... yeah that's too bad but not a surprise.

My dad went for a Hip Replacement.
I'm visiting, he's out cold.
Mom shows up.
Church Lady shows up, yapping from down the hall.
Mom + Church Lady go full avalanche trainwreck talking.

Doc walks in a few minutes later.
Doc tries to explain the surgery.
I have to walk over to Church Lady and say:
"I need to hear what the Doc has to say.  You can either shut up or leave."
And I shoot her a Saturday Night Cab Driver vs. Crazy Drunk look.

(sidebar:  Mom values Church Lady yap higher than Husband's health)

Doc explains the surgery.
Everything is good.  I leave.
Couple of weeks later, another Church Lady rambles up to me on the street.
Compliments me handling Church Lady, who's always a handful.
Seems I'm still making the gossip rounds 1 year later.

 :pout :D

I was in Romania in '94, acting as driver + bodyguard for my Dad.

Pull up to a Railroad crossing going full blast.
Host says:  "Oh these are still on Communism time, so you can go."
I say:  "Are you sure, that's a major no no in the US."
Host says:  "The train might come anytime in the next 10 minutes ... but if you feel safer not going."
I notice the questioning my testosterone level, look both ways before crossing the "street", and go.
Host turns total ghost white, as the Train blares at us.  It wasn't all that close.

I'm relating this story to my sister, living in Houston at the time.
She cuts me off.
"People die at train crossings all the time in Texas, and Houston is the worst."
20 years later ... Texas and Houston are still #1 for railroad crossing deaths.
They just can not figure it out.
