My dad has passed away.  Last night, in his sleep, he suffered a bout of sleep apnea.  I knew something was wrong when the cats hadn't been fed, so I went to see if he was still there.  He had been dead for at least 2 hours.  He had his favorite last night for dinner, steak and potatoes, and his other the night before, crab.  The Cubs won while Neko sat on his lap.  The last thing he said, was to me: "I love you."  The last thing I said to him was "I love you too".
Big hugs.

At least he went with all your love...

I don't know what to say... For the past 9 months my father has been teetering in the edge of death, every time he has come close to dying, i didn't know how to react. Even know, knowing he might have to go into surgery again, that even if he recovers from that he might not live long, i still don't know how to react.

I think i understand what you must be feeling... Don't despair.

very sorry for your loss. I lost my Dad in May. It sounds like your Dad died peacefully in his sleep, so that's nice. I'm sure the suddenness makes it hard, though.

My condolences.

If it's any consolation, I think that is literally the best way to go. Peacefully, after time spent with loved ones.

Big hugs for you Dman.  But it sounds like he passed away in one of the best ways possible and you don't have to worry about what you last said to each other weighing down on you.  Best of wishes!

In my own rant:  Our house got hit by lightning.  It did some damage to the top window and some roof panes and siding, but the big damage was it fried one of my dad's networking switches as well as his $1000 HAM radio.  He's pretty down about that given the money situation lately, plus he's found he just can't concentrate or focus anymore so he's contemplating pulling out of school entirely which would mean he doesn't get his degree in emergency management and such.

Just be glad no one was on one of the pieces of electronica that got hit - I've been sent through an interior wall and into second by lightning traveling down the line when I was 22.  I'm almost 34 now and can only just now wear a watch without it stopping immediately O.o

Watched the Cubs for my dad.  They won.  Just a few more wins needed for them, hopefully they get 14 more this season.

Damn... There was no grounding on the house?

Nothing that can take care of a lightning strike, no.  The house was built in the 1940's.  Having a lightning rod or other proper grounding would likely cost $10,000 by my dad's estimation.  Not worth it right now.  The assumption was that the trees would deflect lightning relatively away since they're taller than the house, and it has done so before if I recall correctly, but this time it didn't.

how much is the switch?

No idea, my dad didn't say.  My best conclusion on it is it was minor compared to the radio especially since our home computer network is still working fine after he changed the switch out.  He even offered to get the internet back up in the middle of the night when the lightning hit and he already knew about the switch going caput.

Oddly enough the only other casualty from the lightning strike was the embedded networking chip in my computer.  My dad dug around in his stored network cards and simply gave me a PCI one that works perfectly so no real loss there other than the time we spent tracking down the problem.

Mother of all hangovers right now, saw the sun rise at the lake, drunk out my mind. I don't even know how the night turned to this. Have some stories to tell. Oh boy.

Out of the motherfucking blue a shady-ass individual approached me in my car, i was 99% sure he was trying to rob me, never saw him before in my life. Out of nowhere he starts telling me about how he lost a shitton of coke he was moving because he was approached by a cop, showed me about 50g of pot, said they let him keep it (wtf), and struck up a conversation. Showed me his 7 bullet wounds and started telling me about his time in jail, how he got out earlier this year.

Me and a friend were drinking beer, and this dude, this dude was telling me his life story. I don't know why the fuck, but he wanted to tell me all his shit and i listened. He went inside the market, came with a shitton of beer, and told us not to worry. Continued on buying beer all night, we drank moonshine, another one of his friends showed up, then we went to the lake, more of his friends came, i nearly got into a fight with one of them, he took my side on the matter (wtf2), then the other dudes left, we stayed sometime until 7am, then i dropped him off at another of his friends and he told me to call him whenever i wanted to drink a few beers and that'd he'd introduce me to some chicks.

I mean wtf? This isn't even the first time it happened. Whatever the fucking reason i seem to attract all sorts of people, and they instantly connect and bond and i'm like, i don't even understand what's going on anymore. Also, very likely that in the future i'll probably get some jobs out of this, since i'm really into criminal law, lol.

Un-fucking-believable.

Therapy doesn't always seem to work for depression, other than that you have someone to vent to.  If someone suggests meds do some research, the side effects arent always worth it.
