cool, i'm a lawyer. the cerimony was a complete disaster. i felt utterly alone up there, my parents just sat there. i'm completely pissed at them right now, fucked over something that's once in a lifetime for me. stormed out of there didn't even talk to them, let them be miserable over it as well.

going to get wasted tonight, because it's about the only thing i can do right now, don't think i've ever felt so disappointed at something my whole life

Literally everyone there took photos with their parents/S.O/children, people arrived early so they could take pictures, even some had their parents who are lawyers hand them their certificates (both of mine are). None of that happened, everyone just sat there, i didn't even acknowledge they were even there halfway through the cerimony, and only because i looked for them. It was utterly disappointing, especially since my mother was the one that spurred me onto becoming a lawyer, which otherwise i wouldn't even have considered. Complete B.S.

I might as well have come alone, and i'd be feeling better, because having people there, of all things, made it worse.

I'm feeling kinda like a smug dick at the moment.

More specifically, I feel like a jerk for writing poetry.

To clarify: I hate poetry. I seem to be competent at it... but I don't really find any personal value in it (I have no ear for it, etc, etc).

I dunno - kinda hard to explain why I feel like a smug jerk about it. But I do.

I did the Windows 10 upgrade.....they inverted the scrolling.  I can't figure out how to change it back from this Mac s&^$.  Considering changing back because of this unless I can invert it back.  It's the worst thing Apple has done, and they've done a lot of bad things, their scrolling default.  If I want to go down, I'll SCROLL DOWN.

I don't know why but i'm hooking up again with my ex-gf today. Don't know what to think about it, i was O.K with it in principle but now that it's going to happen in a few hours i don't know what to expect. Eh.

Bailing out at this juncture would be terminating any chance i have, however infinitesimal it is. I will, however, try and get it out of my system before i go and see her in a couple hours. Thinking i'm going to murder that punch bag right now... My biggest problem is that i somatize stuff really easily when i'm anxious, my stomach acids go berserk. I'm doing my best with the meds i have on hand, hopefully it'll be enough to hold the tide in.

I'm a bit more hopeful now than i was before, since i got a couple ideas. My plan boils down to making her head spin. I have no plan after that, maybe we'll just continue to hook up and i'll go look for love and affection elsewhere, maybe we can ammend what we once had and have another go at it. I'm healthily skeptical about everything. If at some point her jealousy kicks in then things can probably be fixed.

The crux of the matter is that what i feel for her is much stronger than what she feels for me, which is kind of a hard thing to fix. In fact i don't know if it's fixable at all, or whether i should even be thinking about fixing anything.

-cough- Linux doesn't have this issue, especially Mint or Ubuntu (pick a flavor - Kbuntu and Lubuntu are both super easy to use, while the default flavor is pretty edgy with how Unity works) -cough-

That aside, I wouldn't wish the walled garden of Apple on anyone.

The problem I have with Linux systems is that I'm not a computer person.  With Windows, all the stuff I use works, and works plenty well enough.  I eventually found the setting change i needed to click (probably 2 minutes after i typed that, but I'm still pissed that inverted scrolling is the default), it was hidden in a layered setting panel that I didn't notice the first time I looked (in fact, it wasn't visible until you moused over it).  It makes NO SENSE to have inverted scrolling on a track pad.  On a touch screen it makes a lot of sense, you're "grabbing" the screen and moving it around.  But on a track pad, you're too far removed from that, and scrolling down is "down", not "move the paper up".  (and yeah, I do need a new laptop anyways, but this one needs to last a little longer.  I'm just lazy enough to not want to have to deal with moving stuff over.

The problem I have with Linux systems is that I'm not a computer person.

See, I am an extremely computer savvy person (I have my masters degree...) and I still don't get along with linux.
On office systems its fine and for people who only ever browse the internet or make text documents its wonderful.

I would never recommend anyone to run it on their personal PC though for the same reason I dispise OSX. Games.

Anyone with even a passing interest in games or a desire to play anything bigger than an in browser one needs to be running windows. Sure there are tools out there for running certain games on linux/osx and even some that are written with them in mind but it really doesn't compare.

I know a whole lot of people who live and die by linux for their personal computers but I get the impression that most of them do it because they want to sound like they know what they are talking about or just to be different. Windows is a perfectly capable operating system for basically everyone (thus the popularity).

In conclusion:
If I was building a server or an office workstation- Linux
Personal computers- Windows
Personal computers for elitists who don't know what they are talking about- OSX

[/rant]

Sorry. That was completely tangential to the original point but I really hate it so much when people start recommending linux to the people as a cure all when in reality it requires a certain amount of expertise to even use it without breaking it.

this blows my mind... (not quite but its a proper use of exaggeration, i think)

iv never been so glad to be off of windows... my boy uses windows for his gaming rig... but he basically just plays on steam. im tempted to put him on the steam os (linux)...

i do everything on my linux boxes (except gaming, im not into it). im not remotely very good at using the linux even... but i don't have Windows Anxiety@ any more, no blue screens or malwars or virals or or or or or or...

In a surprising twist, things went about as well as they could've. We hooked up, drank a bit, watched some movies, i dropped her off, and i'm not feeling any worse because of it. Thought i might feel the urge to go and plead with her for us to get back together but, amazingly enough, i'm completely fine with the ways things are right now.

I guess i'm way too focused on myself right now to really let myself be too affected by these things now, and i can more clearly see right now exactly why we didn't work out together before. I was too focused on her and not focused enough on myself, and she was too focused on herself and not enough on me or us.

With us being in the same page about everything, i guess things will work themselves out naturally pretty well. I'm not holding my breath about us being serious again, ever, but if it happens then it will happen naturally. I won't push for it, and i'm going to live my life as a single man through and through. Oktober is in less than a month from now, and i'm shaping up pretty good.
