Someone at university decided to set up a D&D/PF game. Eh, fine. Might have to be careful to not start breaking things because most of the roleplaying society has no experience with D&D at ALL. Then turns out that everything except, apparently, the most 'bare bones' rules are irrelevant, and most abilities/races/feats are going to be ad hoc (even for PF). Why the hell would you act like it's D&D when you're not using anything from it? It's just a massively stripped-down d20 game.

Someone at university? Foreign student that I'm not sure'll be here next year, either.

Meanwhile, I kept forgetting to ask people about a 5E game (I do not have the patience to GM 3.X with people that have no clue)

The Cubs are losing and it's tearing me up.  I was hoping they'd do it for my dad, but they're down 3-0 in the series and it's best of 4.  They're down to their worst starting pitcher too.

No, I mean, what's his major?

I have no idea and little inclination to ask most people.

You can generally tell the inclination of how most college-age people think based on their majors applied to what they do.

You would be surprised how stereotypical some people can GET.

This

Gussing by behaviour I would think some sort of arts or soft science.

People doing engineering/hard science/computing tend towards more complex rules as far as I can tell.

It doesn't change that I generally don't ask people what subjects they're doing. :P

a list

city and county property taxes due on what was my mothers property.
property taxes due on my house (these are escrow'd, so not really a problem but lets be comprehensive :D )
taxes due on two cars.
clothes washer seems to need a new drain pump. (i technically have a spare but its far from a perfect solution)
clothes dryer needs a third replacement of its heating element. (ditto)
getting laid off in december (as previously bitched about)
and now my furnace is kicking out carbon monoxide... tore it half apart, needs major repair (at best heat exchanger, whole new unit (most likely) worst case)
mrs bday is the 1st...

looks like we are gonna sell the house move to moms trailer and ride out the storm... but i need to fix the furnace to sell the house...

moving also means probably paying school fee to keep jr in the same district...

when it rains...  :banghead

the mill i work(ed) in puts a lot of it in the air inside the building...

i cant tell you how many times iv been in CO rich environments that peg the industrial meters we use. (>2 parts per Thousand). my meter i brought home to check the house with shows a recent high (from work, not the house) of 1500 ppm.

no we dont hang out long when it gets that bad...

forgot to put 'car needs two tires' on the list...

Found out I missed a call from my doc yesterday.  I play the message and it goes something like this:

"HI. Remember hat medicine we prescribed for your nerve damage?  That was a mistake, as in combination with your other meds it can cause paranoia, hostility and increased risk of stroke.  We sent a new prescription to the pharmacy, you need to stop taking those pills."

They prescribed them a month and a half ago.

My apologies if I've been unusually short with anyone.

That would explain the strange nights where you mysteriously transformed into a CE werecat named "Mr. Grumps", and went off to star in a series of memes.

(I never noticed anything, but dang that is scary.)

Fresh windows install is always a PITA...  Even with some new shiny tools that greatly strealine the process of downloading drives, it's still tedious work  to have to keep digging through tons and tons of websites, trying to remember if you missed any of your programs... Yeah, sure, i could have a folder in the ready with all the .exe and .msi files from the previous install, but then i'd still have to sit through dozens of update prompts, so instead i'd rather download every single new installer again... And because i'm exchanging hard drives, it sucks even worse. It's been several hours, and i'm still sitting through trying to make sure that everything is as it was before. I'm a bit paranoid about losing all of my Firefox favorites. Thinking about switching back to Chrome again just so i don't have to ever worry again about my favorites... But at the same time, having google take care of some of the shit i favorite...

I feel your pain, brother.  I just went through the same thing about a month ago.
I took it as an opportunity to do some "spring cleaning" and other organizational improvements.  I'm not re-installing anything until I want to use it, which is saving me a ton of space.  The biggest thing is games.  If I decide I want to play something, it's probably a 3-4 hour download plus the install and patches.  So far I've only re-installed Witcher 3, Heroes of the Storm, and Fallout: New Vegas.

When I'm going to reinstall windows I just get out a piece of paper and go through everything that's on my computer, making a checklist of everything that I'll want to reinstall or re-setup (like my firefox profile).  It takes some time but cuts down on the paranoia.

Definitely helps to cut down on paranoia... I should've done this, but it was extremely sudden. My friend came in to visit, decided it was a good idea to spend several hours cleaning, changing the HDD, transferring all of the files from the old HDD to the new one, getting the new windows install to accept user data from my previous profile so i didn't lose all the shit i had customized on Windows(didn't work out quite as well as we'd hoped, though)...

I took this opportunity to cut down on needless programs as well. I was using Adobe Reader + Adobe Digital Editions + Yet Another Program to manage all my pdf/epub/comic reading, but then i found out SumatraPDF does all of the above and it's free, so i traded 3 programs for one. I'm trying to only use programs that are as lightweight as possible, and preferrably open source. Maximum bang for my buck. Very little use of space, memory and processing power, and they're free and always up to date.

Dudeness.

brujon.

Make a hard drive image of what you like installed right after you've got a fresh install.

Then you can just copy that onto a new hard drive, let it go through a few update cycles (no way are you avoiding that on BloatOS Windows), and be happy.

If I can remember the program we used at my last internship (where it was a matter of setting up/updating craptons of computers), I'll tell ya.
"There is happiness for those who accept their fate, there is glory for those that defy it."

"Now that everyone's so happy, this is probably a good time to tell you I ate your parents."
