Referring to above: I have, in fact, gotten modded Skyrim working on Linux. It's not what I'd call advisable, manually controlling all files is the biggest pain ever, but I've certainly done it. Still, intelligent mod-control? Windows it is.

Meanwhile, today someone in the uni finally got their character murdered by the rest of the party. It's really in people's best interests to listen when told repeatedly, every week, that openly criminal behaviour and threatening to attack the other players is a bad idea even if it's entertaining you. Naturally, when they attack, the three others in the group at the time hit back. Harder. And what prompted this attack? Wanting to free a murderer so they'd join a criminal gang. Even though it was a murder of passion, not a decidedly criminal personality.

Oh, and it was their character's half-brother they attacked.

Having your son in a different state than your own when you can't really get along with his mother is a PITA of the highest caliber. I'm spent. I had visits in the house and i had to spend 3+ hours dealing with her bullshit in order to get the plane tickets to see my son...

I just finished reading a 544-page RPG about ten minutes ago.

More importantly, it's an unfinished one - it happens to lack any sort of advancement system.

Now, normally this would be something I shrug and pass over - but...

A) This is an RPG by Jenna Moran. It is a sublime piece of art that she stopped doing in favor of working on RPGs that would give her money instead.

B) There used to be a "here are the bits I haven't finished" pdf that gave hints as to how you'd handle advancement - however, that pdf seems to have been lost in a reorganization of her site, so it no longer exists.

Why does the only game I know of where you can literally punch someone's soul so hard that their body feels it and where being turned into a mouse might only unlock more kung-fu have to be unfinished?

You know, November is National Game-Design Month... I might end up making something up for it.

what is dis?

Dreaming Waters. You can find a copy of the PDF here.

EDIT: Frabjous day! I have located the Unfinished Bits pdf!

Fuck EA and fuck Origin. I can't play MY OWN games that i paid for with my OWN MONEY because THEY are having issues on THEIR side of things, and they won't let me play before they check their online DRM bullshit. It's already downloaded, installed, but i'm unable to play. Fuck them. My internet is working perfectly fine, my computer is working perfectly fine, the game is installed perfectly fine, and yet, i can't play, because of their bullshit.

You see, this is why Steam is so much better. They let me play my games even if i have no internet connection at all.

Except for the initial install.

I'm with you on DRM bullshit though. I'm still pissed because I bought a copy of URU: Ages of Myst a couple decades ago and found out my system wasn't good enough to run it. So it sat, still in the original shrink wrap, for years until I finally upgraded my PC and went to install it--only to find out that I couldn't register the game because my product key was supposedly already in use.

"Okay," I thought, "somebody must have used a keygen in the time since I bought the game. This should be easy to resolve as I have all the original discs/case/documentation/packaging right here in my hands. I'll just contact Ubisoft's customer support..."

Little did I know, they had it set up so that you have to register a product to get support on that product. There wasn't even any way to get contact info otherwise. So if you were having trouble registering, there was literally no way to contact customer support.  :shakefist

So I recently found out how to connect up my 3TB external to my laptop again (read: someone told me I was being an idiot, and I resolved the problem in a way that makes me feel incredibly stupid.)

So, the first thing I do is re-familiarize myself with the files on there - taking stock of my movies and downloaded TV shows, skimmed through old porn, stuff like that.

Then I decided to transfer the porn I've downloaded onto my computer over the course of the last year and a half. There were several thousand pictures alone, and my laptop is much more... sprightly since I've moved them.

I might have a bit of a problem.

Nah, that's pretty common--especially nowadays when all you have to do is follow a couple blogs to get porn thrown at you on a daily basis.

God, I remember back when you actually had to work to find that stuff--not to mention those dark, terrible days before the internet.
A little madness goes a long way...

Have no idea what's going on in my CS course (algorithms) and there's a midterm next week.

Then I went to an event my girlfriend invited me to and did not belong, at all, so I spent the evening feeling like I was making a fool of myself.

Then when I get home, go to play League of Legends with my old D&D group (only way I have contact with most of them), and get told that I'm irritating to play with, it's not fun when I'm in the game, and that it's been going on for a while (I only re-started playing around a month ago... so I guess all of that time). But they didn't want to say anything, so that's pulling all of my paranoia / social anxiety strings because it's literally the worst-case scenario of "what if they're only being nice and I'm actually annoying". And when I called them on that, they just (well, he just, it was one person supposedly speaking for the group) went that I was "too flippant" and I'm like... it's a game? aren't you supposed to take it easy?

Worst day in a long time. Yaaaaaaay. .__."

I would, but... I actually liked that group, and I'm hoping that in a week or two I might get to play again with them. Not really worth taking the time to just confirm what they 'know' I'm like...

Last night was one of the worst nights of my life. I mean, it's REALLY up there as far as what my worst experiences were. Long story short, what i thought was cocaine was actually ketamine. Really a sign from above for me to stop fucking my life, drinking almost every day and partying like a madman. Thought i was actually going to die. Took me several hours to come down from that, and if it wasn't for my friend who thankfully has a bit of resistance to the stuff, we'd all be fucked. I was so out of it, i almost didn't made it out of the party we were in. I almost couldn't walk. If no one was there to make me go all the way back to my car, i'd just lie down on the ground wherever, and stay there.

Which is why i'm calling it quits. If this isn't a sign that it's time for me to get my shit together, i don't know what will. Call it a wake up call, because it was. As of today i'm taking a time off of booze, indefinitely. No more bars, no more parties, and especially no more nightclubs and drugs.

Yesterday could've gone really, really bad, and it didn't, and i should be counting myself lucky that it all worked out well in the end. It could've been so much worse...

Coke's not that expensive provided you know people who give it to you rather than sell it... Actually, it's more dangerous when it's like that. Always available regardless of you having money or not. Granted, it's not the high-end stuff.

I guess part of the problem with the K was just that. Since the coke is cut as hell, we normally do big lines of it. Well, K is pharma-grade, since it's acquired straight from vet undergrads that can get it for dirt cheap. What happens when you do a big line of pharma-grade stuff? Bad shit happens, that's what.

Exactly why i'm steering the hell clear from everything now. Fuck that noise. Worst night of my life. The sheer embarassment of being so out of your mind you barely can even get out of the nightclub, puking your soul on the bathroom's trashbin and then hobbling like a zombie straight from early Romero flicks to your car before half-passing out while you actually feel your mind disconnecting from your physical body when that's something you weren't actually prepared or looking for, is fucking terrifying.

I actually thought i was going to die at some point. It was pure horror.

Hey, at least you managed to hit the trashbin. That's actually pretty impressive considering.

I hand pick which images to download from the various blogs I follow, does that count?

Thread tax: Bank is at it again. Wife is a huge Mass Effect fan and her birthday is coming up, so I decided to order her this special mass effect loot crate online. Had to deposit some cash back into the account to have enough for the transaction.

Couple days later I find out that the bank has decided to switch the order in which the deposit and the payment were processed, and hit me with another $35 overdraft charge--bringing my account back into the negative. This despite the fact that the deposit I made had already posted before I made the purchase. I checked.

So yeah, really regretting not getting my direct deposits stopped last month and closing my account. Going in today to do just that. Wells Fargo can kiss my ass. Next time they want to rob me, they'll have to bring a gun.

Several days ago I had about 10 to 12 Lifesaver candies and the stomach ache from hell.

I figure it was too much candy and so moderated myself.

Today I looked on the book on the nutritional information and saw this:

"Excess consumption may have a laxative effect."

You know, when it comes to delicious candy, you might want to put that warning somewhere more obvious. >:(

I would be sad to lose the Wotc Forums and Brujon on the same day.

I drive a cheap car intentionally.
18 wheeler tried to intimidate me.
Big honkin' pickup tried to intimidate me.
I drove right between the 2 of them, slapping a dent on my drivers door.
Big honkin' pickup driver's face turned deathly white,
he noticed how much more money he would lose, being so stupid.
Cut them off.
Drove like a grandma through a looonnnngggg construction zone.
They didn't notice the Corvette they'd just cut off while distracted
by how stupid they were being toward me.
Highway opens up.
'Vette has a custom exhaust that un-corks race headers for dragstrip use.
'Vette screams at the 18 wheeler.
'Vette screams at the now sheepish honkin' truck.
'Vette gives me a wave and a nod.

Filled up and got 33 mpg.
Your codpiece is a mimic.

Look for any mention in candy ingredients of Isomatl, Maltitol or Erythritol.  They're sugar alcohols: http://www.diabetes.org/food-and-fitness/food/what-can-i-eat/understanding-carbohydrates/sugar-alcohols.html   Not good for the tummy.

Thanks man! On the other hand, this serves me right for being such a shithead and fucking with my life when i just graduated and am now fully a lawyer... Time i outgrew this kind of shit, and incidents like this just show what will happen if i continue down this path. Already refused an invitation to go out drinking today, i just have to keep refusing them and get out of my drinking habit (which leads to the occasional drug habit), and i'll be good. Alcohol will be a bit tough, i worry i might actually getting to be a little bit alcoholic ;\

Yes, but if they put the warning label where you could see it, then you might not buy their product.

Incidentally, google "Haribo Sugar-Free Gummy Bears" some time if you're interested in finding out just how bad maltitol can hit you. They've become something of a meme/college prank on par with insanity like the "cinnamon challenge" or drinking yourself into a coma. Or don't. The reviews tend to be about as graphic as they are hilarious.
