Kensai signature weapons.

You can add a total real or effective enhancement bonus to your signature weapon up to your Kensai level, and it just costs the XP it would cost to craft it and not any money. I understand that part. But there's no mention of properties that have a straight + cost to them at all, so what limitations exist on those if any?

Hrm, as far as I can find, there's no errata clarifying that.  So, you could probably just use the cost table as a guide and scale the xp costs that way.  Or go for a stricter RAW approach and only allow +cost abilities to be added through normal enchantment methods.

So are you saying that there is no limit other than the XP cost? Because the alternative contradicts the text, in that it says minimum XP cost and not maximum and also that you can enchant weapons that are already enchanted, you just pay the difference. For example, a Kensai can add Vicious to a +1 weapon at level 1 by paying 120 XP. He can't add any more + properties until he takes more levels of Kensai, but that is more than the 40 XP it'd cost to add a +1 to a non magical item.

Well, I can't find any other mention of an official ruling on it, so strictly speaking, there's no written way of adding +cost abilities at all.  It would seem to be pretty reasonable to be able to add them at the same scale though.

Could you use the 1 XP = 5 GP conversion for item crafting, or am I making stuff up?

That seems like it would be prohibitively expensive compared to the listed costs.

Personally, I'd convert the enhancing levels the kensai gets into gold, so you could, by paying for the next level of enhancements, use it either to get another +1 equivalent, or use the equivalent gold value in enhancements. If you upgrade from that, I'd make it so that +gold enhancements are always taken from the largest costing +1 chunk

Alright, how about we just say the Kensai buys whatever GP amount of incense or whatever and burns it in some sort of spiritual mumbo jumbo ritual to get the enchantment?
