[D&D3.5] Quest for the Sunblade
« on: October 11, 2015, 11:45:55 PM »
So after a few years of being too busy I am going to try and run a game again, I thought about picking up my old games but too much work for now, instead we'll make a nice short campaing based on a published module (Forge of Fury) that might get stretched into a longer campaign if it is working well. However there is a little twist, for this campaign home-brew classes and whatever are encouraged, with the tough of going over the game ever few levels and discussing what worked and what didn't. I'm still busy but I have an hour a day I'm on the train that I will be using for this game, so it should be resistant to disruptions.

So creation rules.
1) 36 point buy, or 20 and +1LA
2) 3'rd level
3) 3000gp, items over 1000gp cost 500gp extra (so you could buy a handy haversack and have 500 gp for gear, or you could buy cheaper things)
4) hit dice are always maxeimized.
5) base skillpoints are increased by 50% (but not int bonus, so a 2+int class now gets 3+int, etc. a rogue gets 12+int), and are not tripled at 1'st level instead any class skill with ranks gets a +3 bonus.
6) No flaws or traits, but 2 feats at 1'st level.

So the basic story is that you and some other people have put together the clues that put you on the trail of the sun-blade, just like the legendary hero who saved your village/town/tribe/etc. however long ago before disappearing in search of the sun-blade nearly two decades ago, so you decide to follow the trail to see where it leads.

Things I'd like to see in the game but that are not prerequisites;
kitties; http://www.minmaxboards.com/index.php?board=65.0
Oslecamo's improved monster classes, esspecialy the urskan/midguard dwarf; http://www.minmaxboards.com/index.php?board=34.0
More kitties; http://www.minmaxboards.com/index.php?topic=16514.0

Well is anyone interested?

A new campaign run by Catty? Sign me up! :D

My first choice would be a Cat Celebrant, but if other people are interested on that class, I would like to try out the Urskan as my 2nd choice.

Are you ok with any of this base races?

Also out of curiosity, who will be playing the demon hunter?

Lunarians are fine. The others I have some concerns about, I'll Type them up in a review this evening. It's things like flight at level one and such.

Concerns does not mean banned, this is after all in part to test homebrew in real conditions, but is probably best to raise it and talk it over before the game

I'd be really willing to play, but I'm about to leave the house - probably won't have a character idea until this evening. Would enjoy playing one of Osc's monster classes, though, so that's probably where I'll start to look.

This is about how I felt when I saw this thread.

I'm not sure what I would play.  I'm currently digging through homebrew that I like.

Edit:  It's been awhile since I've played a homebrew class so this list is a little all over the place.  If you decide that you don't want to look through systems then I can live with that.  This is what I can come up with off the top of my head for this game.

Potentials:
  - Spellshaping (System)  Not sure which class I'd play, like I said it's been awhile.
  - Gambler
  - Wild Hunt

Currently looking at Urskan (I love the tone/ flavor), though I don't like how much anti-synergy it has; hide bonuses without armor, but gets free magical armor; sunder bonuses on hammer attacks, but gets Rend and improved claw damage.

Well post in the urskan thread, maybe oslecamo will explain his reasoning or make adjustments. I hear he is a pretty swell guy like that, active too, why he might even pay attention to this very thread.  :P

Nanshork, you always play the wild hunt. :)

Gambler has some mechanical issues, like 2nd stance at 4th level so you don't qualify for a l3 stance....I think there is some similar wonkyness elsewhere so I'd have to review it more closely.

Spell shaping is a lot to take in though on a high level I like the fixed warlock idea.

Settle on which one you want and I can take a more detailed look.

The fact that I played one in my last game with you is why I brought it up this time.   :p

For what it's worth, it has the same stance progression as the Warblade.

It is a lot, that's why I gave you an out if you don't want to look through it all.

Elemental Adept or Dragonheart Adept

Dragonheart Adept just seems to get too much stuff, still lookign in more detail at Elemental Adept, but it seems alright.

I'll play an Urskan; will have a character sheet up momentarily.

Any chance someone's going to play a Midgard Dwarf? Would make all of our items a deal cheaper... unless pregame crafting is a no-no, in which case nevermind :P

Pretty much done. Challenging Roar still doesn't have a specific save, and I don't know if you can use your bite attack during the special Smash & Crash full attack (I assume yes, but it's not explicit).

I was tempted to throw a Midguard Dwarf into the mix... How many PCs are we up to? (I really shouldn't. I'm already in too many PbPs... but then again, most of them move at a snail's pace (or maybe are already dead...)).

For Elemental Adept nix the elemental companion and it is acceptable. At low levels it just gives too many exotic options and at high level you have other summon options. It's also like animal companion a class feature that is better than many classes, just even more so. Still a little worried since many of the spellshapes read like better martial manuvers, but we'll see how it works in practice.

Pregame crafting it fine, though I will probably remove XP cost, not sure what to replace them with, probably just gold or waive it altogether. If there is a crafter player, such as a midguard dwarf I'd want to find something that works for the player, but if there isn't one... no need to think on it too much.

I have 3 character sheets or rough outlines, Cat Celebrant, Devil Hunter, and Urskan. Nanshork is still deciding and you are still deciding, I can play with 3 and will max out at 5 so decisions have to be made soon :)

Hello everyone, nice to meet you.

I am the "probably cat-elf devil hunter" in question. Not yet 100% sure about it, I am not that used to 3.5. But we'll see.

One greedy little bastard coming up! :D Since I'll have CWI, I think starting off everyone with Healing Belt's crafted by yours truly might be a good idea...
