From what I could understand, Fumoffu is basically only the comedy bits of the first half of the manga.

Then perhaps you may be interested in Drifters, another manga from the same author. Don't mind the page synopsis, the basis of the story is that great personalities of war that died with wishes unfulfilled get transported to ye old fantasy land with elves and dwarves and magic and dragons and whatnot. And then proceed to keep doing what they did best in life, aka rallying armies under their command and kicking general ass while combining tactics from diferent eras and styles of warfare! All sprinkled with some good Hellsing-style dark humor!

Just watched the first Tenchi Muyo movie.  It's a bit of a misnomer since the name is Tenchi Falls in Love! but nothing at all happened along that line.  We'll see what happens in the others I guess.

So, i just found out about this AWESOME anime and i have to share it with you guys: Name is Moyashimon. It's about a fresh-from highschool university student who has the power to see microbes with the naked eye. But what he sees are not the microbes you and i could through an electron microscope, but actual antropomorphic representations of the microbes that he can talk to and understand! And so, he enters the Agriculture University to study and hopefully take over the family business, but ends up meeting a whole bunch of weird people from the Uni!

It's fun like hell, and you actually learn a fair bit about fermentation, especially brewing from the anime. Definitely a must have for anyone who's ever thought about having their own homebrew beer someday.


PS: Curse you and bless you Oslecamo! Drifters is just *too* goddamn awesome. But now i'm all psyched up to read it till it finishes, and it just started too... Whatever the hell i'm going to do?!? Sigh... It's not even a weekly manga, either... Actually, i don't know it's update schedule. It seems sort of erratic. It's not monthly sometimes, more like a two-week/three-week schedule? Sometimes it's a month, sometimes it's less... Anyway.

HiraKo sure is a military fan, huh? I had read about it after seeing his character parody in HoTD and found out he started to research firearms and military to get the drawing of the guns spot on for Hellsing, but i guess he really took it all the way.

For instance, if they want to use cartridge guns, they'll have to come up with some kind of smokeless powder... The easiest is also the earliest developed one, simple nitroglycerin mixed up with cotton and gelled by ether alcohol. Certainly not out of the technological expertise of the people we saw so far. But they'll also have to develop primers, which is slightly more complicated. I guess they could use mercury fulminate, since it explodes under pressure... But i digress. I think they'll stick with black powder, because they've already mastered a methods for mass production... I think they'll go as far as the latest drifter period showed so far, which is 1945. BUT! On one of the first chapters, there was a SGT of the US Marines that went up just after the main character... He didn't appear yet, but i wonder...

Maybe HiraKo forgot about him.

Hirano also gives me hope as an artist. He almost seems to make it a point to draw EVERYTHING as assymetrically and as devoid of basic human anatomical proportions as possible. I can only draw chibi - barely - without any of them looking like motherfucking monsters.

Yes, his characters, both in Hellsing and now in Drifters seem to have longer arms than they should, in proportion to the rest of their body. But the rest is roughly in proportion.

Count the number of heads. Measure their thighs in proportion to their torso. Hell, take a look at their FREAKING DISTORTED EYES. (Here's a hint: proportions-wise, any character whose height is greater than 7-8 heads is really tall. 11 heads and he's a giant.)

Not saying it's not good art in its own right - HiraKo's stories just wouldn't be the same if he drew shit CLAMP-style. But Da Vinci would barf if he saw them.

Nobunaga damn near had an evilgasm just figuring bullets out and observing Olminipples' comm sphere at work. Think about what he can do merely by having instant battlefield communication - tactics-wise he'll have no delays whatsoever in knowing when to pull the troops back, when to attack etc., it's every feudal military commander's wet dream with a virgin on top.

Hell, the stone walls alone would probably allow him to pull off stunts like he did at the village constructing "instant forts" several times over. Imagine halting cavalry with sudden walls. Remember what he spoke about how to demolish cavalry? Stop momentum, enemy loses power.

And this is just the barebones of magic at work, we haven't even seen what Abe no Seimei can do, given Olminipples noting several times just how much more powerful and proficient he is.

And then we have reverse-engineered airplanes as has been noted earlier.

On the other hand, the Black King has infinite food and, on a lesser scale, troops, something which cannot be properly fought against.

More to the point, it's obvious at this point the Black King is an End/Offscouring. So I'm wondering who exactly he's supposed to be. Given the tendency of Ends/Offscourings to have been pulled into the whole mess under tragic conditions (Jeanne D'Arc was burned, Hijikata was one of the last members of the Shinsengumi to fall, Rasputin was shot, stabbed, beaten AND poisoned before he succumbed to hypothermia after being "disposed of" in a river, and then had his schlong chopped off post-mortem), I think it's fair to assume we're talking about someone on the same scale as Julius Caesar.

I'm with everyone else on this... He's obviously Jesus Christ. I mean, curing people, multiplying food... All that jazz about "I tried to save humanity once, but they didn't accept me"... And if you look carefully on his hand, you can see a hole on his wrist. Several of the Ends seem to be frustrated martyrs, too, or at least people who fought for a cause to the bitter end only to be bit in the ass later for it. They all have some sort of connection to religion or mysticism, too... It seems like the Ends will favor magic over tech, while the Drifters will favor tech over magic, but neither will rely exclusively on one or the other. So i'm pretty curious at what kind of stuff they'll make by mixing magic and tech. Imagine, for instance, a bullet that can deliver an "Instant" wall with that kind of momentum, or a gatling making an instant maze/fortress/whatever the fuck. Little wonder Nobunaga had an evilgasm...

Have to disagree with you on the frustrated martyrs bit - Rasputin was a grade-A asshole. If nothing else, he was selfish to the extreme. Gilles de Rais, too, was a freaking kiddie serial killer. Anastasia was more or less a victim in a turbulent social upheaval, but it's not like she had it in her to try and help anyone after the Romanovs fell. Jeanne and Hijikata actually fit the idea of a frustrated martyr a bit better - Jeanne moreso than Hijikata, as what he fought to protect was technically less 'people' and more 'status quo'.

Then again, Jesus Christ IS a rather strong guess.
