Warhulking hurler build help
« on: June 30, 2019, 08:03:18 AM »
Hello minmax!

As the title says, currently  working it, and while I've determined that I want to take the full 13 levels of war-hulk  and hulking  hurler, I have absolutely  no idea what to take for the base.

Among the ideas, half-ogre, water orc barbarian.  Take orc warlord and LEAD THE HORDE!

Goliath barbarian/bear warrior to be XBOX HUGE AND  STRONG LIKE POWERTHIRST!

Race unknown,  but wildshape ranger for base to cap the build with warshaper.

Warblade for diamond mind and iron heart,  with martial study/stance to get  thicket of blades.

Half giant tashalatora, considering  ardent for the advanced psionics, or psychic warrior for the bluffs and bonus  feats.

Or taking pugilist fighter with the gheden template  for being flat immune to raw damage, energy  drain and fear.

Any help or further  advice  would  be helpful

For reference,  centaur is not available, nor are epic progressions, or monster level progression, but LA buyoff, templates and  paragon classes are.

Let's thin the list a bit.

Ranger would have it's skills wiped out by WarHulk, so that's a waste.  Wildshaping into forms that can't use 13 levels of throwing is also wasted.
Tashalatora wouldn't get enough levels to make any difference, and the Psi based skills get wiped too = nope.
Gheden template while interesting in a white room idea, kills it's Dex skills, making this a No Skills build = in practice a really bad idea.

But that's still plenty of room for a bog standard frontliner build.
The Barb + Fighter + Warblade ideas still work, maybe even in combo.

Make Makes Right is the str sub for cha Leadership feat, but squeezes your available feat slot early.
Could be a level 9 tactic choice.  Retrain the level 6 feat to leadership, and have the cohort fill whatever gap in the party.

Speaking of, what does the rest of the party look like ?

I'm not sure how much I have  to care about skills for this  build,

On the psionics, one skill  I do like is concentration, I considered  pairing  it with the warblade and a level or two of psychic warrior to take 15 on concentration checks for my saves and hustle/psionic meditation with a psi-crystal.

As for narrowing  the list down, I see the  point  of legit tashalatora  and ranger.

But on the gheden,  like I said  I'm not too sure how  important  most skills are to this build. I really only lose open lock and sleight of hand which weren't all that important for a big beatstick.

On  the might makes right, the DM is allowing  flaws, fiendish pacts and corruption  scores so I've got at least 6 bonus feats.

As for party comp, there's a kobold sorcerer/wizard thing, and I think he might have erudite.

We have a pair of tayfolk, one going  warlock, the other I think  is going  for a grappling monster of some sort

There's a dragonfire adept who's race I don't know.

There's a second kobold doing something  similar  to Porn the steel  dragon.

There's a truenamer

We have a factotum

And we have a centaur doing a charging  build.

- Be a Half-Minotaur from Dragon #313 if they're not banned. It gives +12 Str, +6 Con and Large size plus a bunch of other stuff for +1 LA, and it's a template so you can put it on top of another race (specifically, a Medium-sized one). This is the cheapest way to qualify for Hulking Hurler and War Hulk "naked", although the Strength is only relevant if you aren't going into Polymorph/Wild Shape shenanigans.

- Might I ask why you want to take War Hulk? No Time to Think is really annoying, and the rock throwing doesn't combine well with that of Hulking Hurler. The only real advantage is the Strength (assuming you're using your natural form as a base, otherwise even that's useless), and there are other ways to get your rock size up to "enough" (Righteous Might, either from actually taking the Cleric levels or from a custom magic item, multiplies it considerably, and there's always Natural Heavyweight). This also applies to the last two levels of Hulking Hurler, as Overburdened Heave is the only trick that isn't a drop in the bucket and even that is often not worth the full-round action.

Honestly I don't see no time to think  being much of a problem, I'm not  sure what I'd actually  need  any of the mental  skills for.

And the two dex  skills I'd  take a hit to don't matter  much.

But in all honesty  I just liked the warhulk, and the hulking  hurler, and I liked the idea of combining  them.

I also  planned, on pairing  sweeping  strike with voidstone weapons and withering rod.

I could  probably  go without  the last level  of hulking  Hurler, but I like taking  all 3. I'd  partially  be going  for area attack to try and pair it with sweeping boulder and such. Hit 4 squares. Attack EVERYTHING.
