Sublime Chord/Ur-Priest/Mystic Theurge - Help appreciated
« on: December 13, 2011, 04:03:56 PM »
I am currently playing a Bard. I've been considering going into Sublime Chord for a while, so I don't get left behind by everyone else playing full casters and doing ridiculous things. Recently, my character got possessed by some unknown evil force (I got bored and said "Hastur" 3 times; we've all been there, right?), which made me consider moving toward an Ur-Priest instead.

But, of course, what would be more fun than a Sublime Chord or an Ur-Priest? Both of them! I've never played a divine caster before, let alone a Mystic Theurge, but I'd like to give it a shot. Any advice?

Do it. It works well. I've posted a couple of times on here about throwing in some War Weaver just for uber buffing power. Basically you want a +casting class to fill the gap between Bard 5 when you get 2nd level spells and level 10 when you have enough skills to get into Sublime Chord next level. (Unless you're a Savage Bard, it was pointed out to me, you can't go Bard 5 / Ur Priest because of the Fort requirement.) Personally I like Mindbender, War Weaver, more Bard (Bard 7 gets you third level spells, Bard 8 gets you Inspire courage +2, both good breaking points)... depends on what level you are already, how much farther you want to go just being a Bard, and so on, what break point works for you. Overall, I highly recommend Bard / Ur-Priest / Sublime Chord / Mystic Theurge very well.
I'll put something here when I think of something witty. For now, this might as well be a sign that reads "post no signs."

It's fun. One of the campaigns that I'm working on revolves around the actions of a party of evil pcs, and has an ur chord in the evil counterparts party. He spends so long building up and qualifying that he's always got something very mission specific going on rather than using his own varied jack of all trades abilities, but I'm treating him as a charming and popular master of logical reasoning and twisted insights into the nature of the universe from day 1.
