An exercise in basic character building: feats.
« on: January 10, 2012, 07:53:41 PM »
I am building a level 10 human. The character is alive. It will have four feats. This is everything I can tell you about the character.

What four feats do you feel are mostly likely to benefit this character?
[20:32] <DonQuixote> A POX UPON YOU ALL!
[20:32] <DonQuixote> YOU, J, FOR STEALING THE PURITY OF NORNS.
[20:32] <DonQuixote> YOU, DRAMMOR, FOR ENSNARING ME IN THIS FIENDISH PRISON.

Well, I've already said my piece.

1. Item Familiar
2. Hidden Talent (Psionic Minor Creation)
3. Wild Cohort
4. Otherworldly (if you're a spellcaster), Power Attack (if you're martial), Able Learner or Darkstalker (if you want some skills)

You mean the Mercantile Background from PGF, right? Not the Dragon one?

(A)
Spellfire Wielder
Improved Initiative
Planar Touchstone
Wild Cohort

(B)
Incarnum Toughness
Troll-blooded
Shape Soulmeld: Soulspark Familiar
Blessed By Tem Et Nu

I can't find Incarnum Toughness, but I would assume that you mean Azure Toughness, right?

I almost asked, but then I realized why BBTEN is so great here. That's awesome synergy.

I guess it's azure toughness.  Whatever the incarnum-based slightly less sucky version is.

Battle Jump
Whatever it is, it could use x2 to damage.

Hidden Talent(psionic minor creation)
Whatever it is, it needs more Black Lotus Poison.

Martial Study(any white wind)
Whatever it is, it wants to own an item granting use of White Raven Tactics.

Skill Focus(speak language)
Whatever it is, it should never leave home without it.

A Warlock's Eldritch Blast (i.e., ranged attacks) or a Dragonfire Adept's Breath Weapon can't use the x2 to damage from the Battle Jump feat in Unapproachable East (page 42)

Is Azure Toughness in Magic of Incarnum (page 35) good because it's free action healing? Healing Devotion in Complete Champion (page 59) is better.

No, it's good because it qualifies you for troll blooded.
And it isn't toughness.

I'd hafta get MOI out to refresh my kitty avatar's memories, but ...

one of the psi recharge set-ups can be done with just feats.
1) hidden talent - that cpsi 2hp healy power
3) X for now retrain at level 6 into Practiced Manifester
6) Cognizance Crystal 1ppoint - make it whenever
..... at 7 retrain the CC feat into Azure Talent feat
..... at 8 retrain the PM feat into Psycarnum Infusion feat

Result = unlimited slow out of combat healing

9) whatever everyone else has posted that fits
Your codpiece is a mimic.

You know else Warlock using EB can't use? Deadly neurotoxin.

5d6 ranged (avg 17.5) or 2d8/2d8 & 3d6 con (avg 47 & 3d6 more con if they live long enough)?
It may not be the prime pick of a caster, but in some cases it's better and tailors to more classes.

Master poisons. I've yet to wrap my head around poison viability. Which poisons and what are their craft DCs? I currently read the handbook to find out.

Y'know, the recommendation to focus on poisoned ammunition for continuous (pre-)poisoned attacks + the clause that "you never risk accidentally poisoning yourself when applying poison to a weapon" makes me think of Fukimi-Bari (mouth darts).

Poison viability is totally based on if you spent gold on it.

For instance, would you pay 4k per attack to add a 3d6 con damage DC 20 Fort negs effect to your attacks? Probably not, but would you do it if it were free? Hells yeah. So you use the Creation line of spells to create it by the bucket full.

DC scales by gold/feats too. Like if you invest in a +5 Assassination Dagger and Venomous Strike the DC goes up by 7. Sickening/Terrifying Strike isn't poison or DC increasing, but it lowers pretty much everyone roll your opponent does by four which is like those effects. Don't forget, if you naturally produce poison it's free AND you can benefit from Venomfire. Venfire isn't poison, it just requires it to add +(cl)d6 acid damage to your attacks...
