Damn. I stop lurking for a couple months and suddenly i don't know sh*t. Some pretty nice thinking with Stifle and Trickbind. Sick things can be done with them indeed, and they have also a lot of utility outside of the combo. Agreed with you on all counts, but what about Extended play? I for one rather prefer to play on Extended than on Legacy or Standard, because that way i can still play the new format, but don't have to suddenly forget all about my previous decks and strategies, or stow away most of my cards, and i don't also have to spend as much on a deck like in Legacy. Kind of best of both worlds for me, especially since i did the dumb move some 6 or 7 years ago of selling *all* my cards for dirt cheap because i decided i'd quit Mtg. Mostly playing on workstation now... [sadface]

But i can see sundial being used for a whole lot of situations, like getting out of sticky situations like your attackers being blocked, you just end before the assign damage step, or keeping more than 7 cards in your hand without having to discard, ever(Though i don't know what use that would have). But i can see abolisher being played where Meddling Mage would have seen play, although i don't see Meddling Mage being completely replaced in all situations, but Abolisher accomplishes much of it's functions, at least in most matchups. I know WoTC is pulling away from control a bit, especially since Jace was so proeminent not too long ago and dominated everywhere, and U/W control was so damn annoying. Actually, i'm kinda glad they're giving it the finger... Never really liked playing 20+ turns of not doing much of anything...

Actually, i wouldn' t be surprised if threads like "100 things you can do with your Sundial of the Infinite" started popping up lol

Near as I can tell, Extended has been mostly replaced by Modern and Legacy.

Yeah, Extended is nearly gone from WotC's tourney rotation.

Damn. I stop lurking for a couple months and suddenly i don't know sh*t.
I know how that can be. I'm a cheapskate casual player so the latest uber combos tend to be missed by me, but my attention towards MtG articles and forum posts peaks at every new release. Spend 40 bucks or so every couple of months to obtain some of the most useful/powerful cards out of an expansion goes a long way over time.

Like I already had four copies of Corpse Harvester & Undead Warchief. And I've even had Victimize/Contract from Below forever and when Reassembling Skeleton came out I just had pick it up. So when Innistrad came out I didn't have to spend a lot to come up with a zombie horde themed deck and the 'expensive' cards I ordered were two each of Endless Ranks of the Dead and Army of the Damned, couple of cheap buck or less cards later and Elves were still kicking my ass but it's fun none the less. :)

Avacyn has just been spoiled:

(click to show/hide)

The best part is that she is 100% real. WotC just released this info today.

Get your phones ready.
What? Why's that?
Because we're going back to Ravnica.
(Restraining gleeful squees) So?
So you know what's on Ravnica, right?
Viashino? Do Viashino like texting?
No, ghosts.
Ghosts?
Ghosts.
So I need my phone?
Well, who you gonna call?
. . .

And I thought Avacyn was good, Grisslebrand may well get banned in Commander.

Those numbers may not be accurate, as WotC has done many uneven sets before.

Those numbers may not be accurate, as WotC has done many uneven sets before.

The set can perfectly fit the standard rarity distribution for a 229-card set (subtracting out Basic Lands from all sets). Without reason to believe there's anything strange happening, I've assumed they will be consistent with several other sets. This set doesn't have DFCs or other gimmicks that would change the print sheets. Feel free to be skeptical, but it seems pretty clear this is the breakdown.

Because why not use the same thread?

I slip in and out of paying attention to Magic releases and I was shocked to see Berry's Land finally being printed. The new set introduces a new colorless mana symbol, , and a new basic land type called "wastes".

First the symbol it's self, here is what an old card would look like and it's new updated version.
(click to show/hide)

And as for the Wastes, the story is pretty much Ulamog & Kozilek broke stuff resulting in these.
(click to show/hide)

There is also a pretty cool (abit boring) card called Walker of the Wastes that'll serve as a super cheap massive beater for more casual players wanting to look into colorless decks.
(click to show/hide)

And I'd like to say magic has come full circle finally. If you've read the prequel book released during the Invasion cycle you know the story starts clear back with Uzra. Dominaria was a more technomagic heavy world complete with floating buildings and flying chair-cars and illusion pendants all ran off power stones. Spellcastering using memories instead of stones was only just being discovered and the theories about mana being different colors were only rumors.

Cut to the more modern days and magic as the world and we the players know it and it's a mixable five color pie with colorless mechanical artifacts from a bygone age being rediscovered and leading to artifact-heavy blocks and the steady return to a more colorless gray world. The "ancient" Eldrazi would push things along this step and they have finally come full circle. Colorless officially gains it's symbol.

So maybe now we can drop the colorless fetish for a few years.  :rolleyes
