I really hope that's the case, but some of the bits here and there (like his "learning difficulties", how he's stuck with the hardest session and the like) made me very leery at the possible attempts to make him pitiable.
The dead session is punishment for killing his sister, and the learning difficulties are a joke/nod to the Time aspect. Trust me. Hussie is very clear when characters are supposed to be pitied, the exception being Vriska, who was intentionally divisive.
Trust me, I have another friend who's more in touch with the rest of the fandom and he tells me that most of them feel like he's an adorable 2-year-old rather than a murderous psychopath.
Yes, because those people have terrible judgment. They're the sort of people who think Cronus, Gamzee, and Eridan are just big cuddly babies and who actually try to defend their actions.
That said, Caliborn
is effectively an adorable child. He gets into childish fights with his sister, scribbles on things, throws tantrums, all that stuff. But that doesn't override the other part of his character: Being a murderous psychopath.
