What Would the DR For 40/+4 Be In 3.5?
« on: January 17, 2012, 09:44:07 PM »
Managed to get my hands on a book called Requiem for a God, and it's perfect for the campaign I'm currently running, but unfortunately for me, this is 3.0 and that's not what I'm running. The creature in question is called a Godflesh Golem, a CR 16 creature. Would it still be DR X/adamantine? A clay golem's adamantine and bludgeoning, so I was thinking of making it like a zombie and having it be DR 15/adamantine and slashing. However, since it's made out of the flesh of a god, maybe DR 10/epic would be more appropriate.

http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dnd/20030718a has the booklet for various conversions from 3.0 to 3.5, and includes a section on DR.

I already have that book. It doesn't help with anything. They might as well not have made it with the lack of information. But that's WotC for you. This is why I'm asking.

Nothing offical, but in converting I tend to use this:
DR +1 = magic
DR +2 = material or physical type
DR +3 = alignment or magic+material or magic+physical type
DR +4 = alignment+material or alignment+physical type or material+physical type or DR/- or two alignments
DR +5 = DR/- or two alignments+magic or something unique/difficult to bypass
DR +6 and up = epic, repeat the sequence using "epic" instead of "magic"

I understand 3.0 DRs were higher and that one should be expected to lower them.  For that, I just say use your eye.  Your description makes me think DR 20/material+alignment is appropriate.  Mind you, I pulled that chart above out of my butt.  It just felt right though.  The chart, not... pulling out of.... you know what, nevermind I said that.
Mudada.

How about DR 10/Epic and adamantine?  Or DR 15/adamantine and (alignment), basing the alignment around what the god had?

@SolEiji -- Living beings with the alignment subtype tend to be affected more by the "alignment" aspect of damage. However, your chart does support my material + physical type.

The god was evil, and a greater one at that. However, because he was so evil, and tried to overthrow all the other gods, he was turned into a lesser god, and sealed. Centuries later, his followers who still worship him, and want to bring him out (most of them are liches or other intelligent undead, or immortal) have found a way to break the seal, and release him. However, they have no body for his vessel. Merely some of his flesh. This they'll use to construct a godflesh golem. They'll still need to get him in his proper body, but at least he'd have something to house his conscience in for the time being.

Just realized I had Deities & Demigods, but don't know if I want to use this. A lesser deity (rank 6-10) was DR X/+4. In the 3.5 update, it's DR 20/epic. It does seem a bit high, but I could probably live with it being DR 15/epic and just fluff it that over the centuries the flesh deteriorated slightly. It was well preserved, and it is a god's flesh.

Or you could say that it's the divine force that gives the DR, and without the "soul", it's not as powerful.

Given the deity was evil, if you give the DR an alignment, it should be Good to breach it.  So either go Epic, or go Adamantine and Good.

I'll likely go epic. Just about all of them have an angelhelm and an adamantine weapon. The BBEG wouldn't last too long.

I like the idea of the soul not being there is what help degrade it.

Sounds good!  Glad you like the idea, it seemed more fitting to the concept to me.
