Google Music

Anybody use it?  I could use a good online music backup, and 20,000 songs worth of storage for free is tempting.

External HD, so no need. Sounds like a neat little tool though, I'll give it a look.

Under usual circumstances, I'd agree completely, but it looks like it's also a streaming service to various mobile devices. So, instead of having just a fraction of your 20,000 songs on your iApple/Android/et cetera device, you could - with Internet access and the right application -- have all of it. Seems pretty awesome and I may need something like this in the near future.

The real question is when will Google let me backup my mind onto their servers?

My main concern is "And remember, Google Music is only for lawfully acquired music files."  It makes me wonder if they're going to check for the kinds of tags that Itunes creates or some such.

There's very little (as I understand it) they can do to check for lawfully acquired files. A file you rip from a CD is fine; a file your friend rips from that CD is illegal.

They can probably check the ID3 tags for sketchy looking things, but I doubt that would turn up an awful lot. Really, I'd be surprised if they did more than a cursory check or did anything more than remove the offending file.

i would not upload my collection to them.

storage has exploded, 16 or so gigs of sd card cant suffice till you get home.

also, its not that hard to setup your own cloud system and not involve your self w/ a 'policy' or 'terms'.

but for the most part turntable.fm and pandora satisfy my traveling needs for anything not already on my sd card.
