I would have covered the world with my twisted spawn, ravening hordes of horror to turn the brains of saints to dust, and stood astride mountaintops to trumpet my sovereignty -- if it weren't for those meddlin' kids.

OK... now someone MUST start a "Scooby Doo meets Cthulu"-themed game... Who's going to do that?  :lol

I've already done this at conventions. Scooby Doo and the Thing that Should Not Be. When there's a big enough attendance, we include guest stars (Like the original cartoon used to) which would be the Three Stooges, or the Marx Brothers, or... in the event of a massive turnout, the Addams Family or the Harlem Globetrotters.

And that wretched Hound of Tindalos too!

So I guess Legion's the one to read this in character, right?

Legion seems to be the one to read all of them in character. I just do it OOC.

By the way, what would the Decipher Script DC be for translating this language, and how would that change with the reference material we have already (one tablet translated, and a few more letters via Gurdin's books)? For reference, I have a +5 DS modifier, and I can pump it up to +9 with rituals since an attempt only takes 1 minute (I can sustain 15 rounds of rituals without recharging), or +11 if the modifier only needs to be increased at a limited point in the attempt, rather than over the entire duration.

Well, let's give you the previous sources as +2 circumstance modifiers each, giving you a +6.  All this text is pretty simple, but the language itself is archaic, so base DC 25.

And I think since you only need to roll once that you can pop out the +11.  I mean, you can do Divine Insight to help DS, which only affects one roll and is discharged when you use it.  It's just that the roll takes 1 minute.  :)

I'll wait for Sorrel to give it a try before changing out my vestige.

In case you were worried, this is the end of the dungeon.  No more monsters to fight :)

A likely story, Mister GM! No more monsters to fight... nevermind that the guy in the glass prison is technically a person and not a monster!

I'm wise to you! :)

It's more like that I can get the extra +2 modifier, but it (they, actually, since it's two +1s) would only last for 3 rounds and the skill check takes 1 minute. Ergo, my skill check modifier would not be at the increased level across the entirety of the attempt to use the skill, only at the beginning/end/whatever point of it. Not that it matters here, since I can make the DC taking 10 with the basic skill ritual's +4 and the various circumstance modifiers' +6.

You can always start the decipher, then just when the minute is almost up pop both the +1's in time for the skill check. :)

So... where to next? A town to do more research? Next one of those spots on the map?

Since we're certainly leaving this cave to do whatever we decide to do (unless the decision is to become hermits), can I get the Detect Magic results on the rune in the entrance arch, please?

We should probably make preparations for whatever trip we decide to make. From what I understood, we only have supplies for travel on a local scale, not an international one. We should probably share the information we've found with someone we trust, so that if something bad happens to us it doesn't get lost completely. Sorrel would also like to at least say goodbye to his family before disappearing.

By the way, I don't suppose I've heard (or read) the name "Eidoloterra" anywhere before?

Yes, it's magical -- self-resetting magical trap with a faint conjuration (healing) effect.

EDIT: And if you can roll massively awesome on a knowledge (history) or knowledge (the planes) check, you might have heard of Eidoloterra.
