Augury Part I: New Beginnings

"We haven't been that way, have we?" Kara says, pointing north.

Legion says "Yeah, I think there was an area over there we didn't explore. So... who can get the best use out of this knife?" As he talks, he heads in the direction of the unexplored area.

Snowy transformed back to her humanoid self, waving her head a couple times saying rapidly, "Well, well! Who would've thought something like that would be this deep in this cave, uh?" as she kept on walking next to the people leading in the front.

"Well, that was interesting. The knife doesn't seem to be turning everything to ice any more. I wish we had some way to know what it actually does do before someone starts swinging it around, though," Sorrel says as he gets up and follows.

((If you want to turn that 2 points of cold damage into 1 point of nonlethal, we can take 3 minutes for me to fix it and recast the rituals it would use. It's not a lot of time, but it's also not a lot of damage. Your call.))

As they're walking, Legion says aloud "Hmm... you know, it doesn't really make much sense to go to that much trouble to bury that dagger in such an elaborate way... If someone thought so much of that dagger, why wouldn't they just keep it on them, and use it?"


He's silent for a moment, then continues "What if the cell wasn't for the dagger, but the dagger was part of a prison for something else? Something terrible... After all, the dagger is what was generating the ice."

He stops walking, and looks to Sorrel and says "I think you should send your birds to look around in there more, to make sure there's not something else that we missed buried in that ice..."

"I suppose it can't hurt to look more closely. It's not like we're in a hurry, right?"

((If nobody wants to object, Sorrel will send more Sonorous birds into the ice to see what's deeper in. Detect Magic on the pedestal and on the surface of the frozen lake to see if there's anything of note there, then just birds into the lake itself and only detect if there looks like something interesting. Unless we want to take as much time as we can, in which case Detect Magic on every cubic inch. Other than that, I'll be sending the birds in as far as they can go to see if there anything in the lake and to find where the river feeds it, or if there are any other passages to or from it. Anything else I should keep an eye out for while I'm in there?))

Isaac, impressed with the ritual craft and wishing mother were around to answer some of his questions on the matter, looked carefully at the knife. "I could use it, but I don't know that I would prefer it over anything else. One of our fighting members should definitely carry it though. I could imagine it being useful both in and outside of combat."

"Now that you mention it, I agree it's kind of strange.." said Snowy in thoughts. Giggling a bit, she continued with "Hmm... yeah, do your thing Sorrel, we'll hold the fort!" and then she walked to the back of the group ready to breath if needed.

Sorrel's eagles search the rest of the room, and only find one more piece of information.  None of the room is magical anymore, but there is something carved into the ice of the pedestal.  It is visible now as the thawing of the room lays frost on the surface of the Blue Ice.

Nora'Luuu walked over to inspect the knife himself. It was cold, jagged, and unique. Moreso, it was icy, and even cold to be around.

"Is *that* why the mountain outside is covered in snow? Seems such a small thing. But, if we have it here, if we've moved it... won't the Winter end?"

He looked really worried it. Maybe he liked the Winter.

"It doesn't look like there's any magic left in there, just some more writing in the same script as is on those tablets. It's carved into the pedestal, so you can take a look yourself if you want. Let me get some paper so I can write it down. The underground lake there just leads out to the river, nothing special there. If you can think of anything else to check for, I'm still good to go."

"We're above the snow line, it's just cold up here. I mean, magic is magic and it can do strange things, but anything on that scale would be very obvious. So I doubt it."

"It's not my style of blade...not balanced for throwing. Isaac and my brother prefer larger weapons, Snowy just breathes and Garryl...I've only seen him use a bow. So...you want it? If so, it's yours my friend.

Nora'Luuu seemed quite relieved that removing this dagger wouldn't undo Winter. Though, the question seemed to startle him...

"Me? You would offer it to me?"

He paused, as though considering the weight of the offer. Then he undid the leather strap binding one of his own knives from its fur sheath and handed it to Kara. Apparently, a blade for a blade.

The knife was more a kukri then a dagger, and while it wasn't the best looking blade, or the sharpest or the most dazzling... it looked hand made and hand sharpened.

Kara takes the offered blade. It might someday come in handy . If nothing else, it would mean she could safely throw her last dagger without being left defenseless.

"Right then. Was that the last passageway?" she asks.

If possible, could Isaac or someone possibly copy down that passage? There is always the chance that we will need it. I know I didn't bring down any paper and ink though.  Aside from that, if anyone has autohypnosis and can 'remember' it...

Well... I could go read it if I change my bind to the Green Lady (and pick Comprehend Languages), but I'll basically be out of useful combat abilities for the rest of the day. So if someone can just copy it down and then we can translate it later, that would be the best, I think.

Or alternatively, we can come back through here on the way out and Legion can read it (and the archway, and runestone), then we can call it a day (and hopefully avoid combat till tomorrow).

I did say IC that I was going to copy it down, so I should have a copy of it. There's also a stick of some sort with writing on it that Kyle found earlier on when the group was split up. Even though nobody's mentioned it IC to use yet, someone should probably try to remember anyways since Kyle's player isn't around any more.
