Algid Enchantment

It's a nice spell, but it only targets [Cold] creatures.  However, it seems to only check the subtype at casting time.  How does one temporarily acquire the [Cold] subtype for oneself and one's party members?

There's a spell that grants the [cold] subtype in PHBII (I think, AFB at the moment).  I remember it's accompanied by an illustration of Mialee covered in ice.

If you're thinking of As The Frost, even though it's a [Cold] spell, it only changes your type to Outsider.  Meh.

The answer's right there alongside Algid Enhancement: Mantle of the Icy Soul.  Now, the Frostfell version is permanent and has a hefty experience cost--but the revised, Spell Compendium version does exactly what you want, granting the cold subtype for one hour per level.

Mantle of the Icy Soul plus Algid Enhancement has been one of my favorite buffing routines for years.

Well, no...but why bother?  Just slap on Energy Immunity: Fire, and enjoy the benefits with none of the drawbacks.
