Only ever took online tests but I tend to score between 110 and 120, IIRC. It's been a while. Usually that range +/-5. Looks like the low end of the group round here. Therefore, I choose to assume IQ means nothing.

I tended to test consistently at around 92nd percentile range on standardized tests in anything with clear-cut rules and patterns like math or science (always got my highest aptitudes in "pattern recognition"). History, social studies, some biology - "memorize these barely connected things" I usually was in the mid 70s to low 80s percentile-wise. So above average.

I take even that with a grain of salt though since I'm a natural at taking tests. Put me in a field situation and the results aren't as great.

For what it's worth, the lowest I've ever scored on a properly-administered test was 167, and I agree that IQ means nothing.

You're talking about people who read roughly 10,000 pages of rules, and in many cases, commit large chunks of that to memory.

Voluntarily.

For fun.

Seriously--is it likely that we're going to find too many "below average" folks here, at least as far as linguistic and logical-mathematical intelligence go?

And how many of them do that and then think, "I bet could do better than that."

IQ tests in general have been judged pretty poorly, I'm not sure I agree with them at all.  They are certainly racist and they are certainly slanted towards people who do well at test-taking.  I've scored in the 130-150 range on all the tests I've taken.

I voted the lowest score range, because I have always been a good test taker, and I'm a WASP, so its likely the tests are slanted in my favor.

As far as accuracy I count myself among the people who don't put much stock in it, for the above reasons, and for the fact that I've met people who were total idiots in many ways, but they were absolute geniuses in a particular subject that interested them.  I just don't see how a standardized test can capture that kind of variance-you have to be brilliant at all (or most) things to be labeled a "genius" and I'm not sure I agree with that.

Yeah , caelic is right.

The entry hurdle to D&D is higher than MtG or Poker or Fantasy Baseball.
Mind you, after getting over that hurdle, some D&D-ers fall flat on their face(s).

I'm not sure I put much stock in IQ tests.  Supposedly one of my acquaintances got about 180, and the psych said that was mostly because of how she'd stayed alive after going through all the shit that's happened to her.  She thinks I'm more intelligent than her, and while I hate to toot my own horn there are several ways I definitely am.  I'm not about to get into an argument with my dad that could get me kicked out of the house for instance.   :rolleyes

Like some others here, I've always scored high on standardized tests.  The most relevant one was my ACT in high school where I scored a 33.  A perfect score is 36, for those who aren't familiar with it.  My cousin who just graduated from Yale got the same score.

Not sure where I was going with that so I'll look at something else.

"And all the children are above average" reminds me of a George Carlin bit where he said "Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that."

... I was joking. Still, midget-tossing the rogue lets you both attack and troll the DM at the same time. Something to be said for that.

As many others here I don't put a lot of stock in the IQ tests. I've taken tons of them online and had very mixed results. I have tested over 200 once, an obvious over statement in my mind, and as low as 60, I'm pretty sure I'm not mentally retarded so that again is one where the test was the issue. Based on my experience and the rough average of the others I took I'd say between 130 and 140 is probably correct. Well at least it was, I've gotten older since then and gotten lazy so my brain isn't exactly in fighting shape.

I'll leave this with parting words concerning intelligence and its role in society:
"Intelligence is knowing a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is knowing not to put it in a fruit salad."
