Wild also has those not-quite-mithril armor materials if you're using dex based.

I find Savage Species to be a nice supplement for gestalt games. I think that playing gestalted monster classes is neat. Also has Assume Supernatural Ability and Supernatural Transformation feats, the Illithid Savant prestige (for when you want to break games). And then there's the Feral template for melees, and various anthropomorphic animal races, such as the baleen whale.

Exemplars of Evil.  Heard mixed reviews about this book.  How is it?

While we're on the topic, what do people think of Elder Evils, the last 3rd Edition book ever published?

I've only really used EoE for that one feat (Blessing of the Godless), but I am a firm advocate of EE (even if the Evils themselves aren't all that they are cracked up to be).

Rules Compendium.  I already know a good portion of the rules and where to find them, but does this product organize things in a clean and easy reference?

It does, and a lot of the complaints about it nerfing things are because people didn't know that the rules were reprinted from previously printed books which made those changes first.

The Shattered Gates of Slaughtergarde.  Easy and fun to run for the DM and players?

Currently running it, and the only thing I can complain about is that the adventure is split between 4 paperback books, and you sometimes have to sift through multiple books to find what you need.

Complete Champion, the only Complete book I don't own (aside from Complete Pisonic).  Worthwhile stuff for Clerics and divine casters inside?

Not just casters, noncasters get a little love out of that book. There isn't much for Arcane casters though (not that they need more).

For the Race books, generally speaking, probably: Stone, Dragon, Destiny, Wild.  A lot of it depends on the group make up though, since the books are fairly narrow in application.

The generally useful stuff from each book:

Stone has Goliaths, SCM, Whisper Gnomes, Earth Spell
Dragon has Dragonborn, Wings of Cover, Wings of Flurry and Greater Mighty Wallop
Destiny has Illumian and Chameleon
Wild has Raptorans and Arcane Hierophant
Eberron has Cabinet Trickster, Moonspeaker, and Racial Emulation.

Knew I was missing something.  Thanks for the reminder.

Rather entertaining that Changelings got the most love in that book.

Let's move on to the setting books.

My questions:

FR:

Champions of Valor: Details the Harpers, holy orders, knighthoods, and the forces of Good in the Realms.  Is it any good in terms of fluff and crunch for the subject matter?

Power of Faerun: Does it give good ideas and advice on how to be a major power player in the Realms?

Mysteries of the Moonsea: Is this a good setting book, or just a string of adventures?  If the latter, are the adventures any good?

The final 3 adventures: Cormyr: The Tearing of the Weave, Shadowdale: The Scouring of the Land, Anauroch: The Empire of Shade.  Do the adventures give a good closure to events in the 3rd Edition Realms?  How much material does it provide beyond an adventure?  I hear that the PCs get a hold of the Nether Scrolls, and need them to save the world.  Sounds cool, but even a good idea can get ruined by bad writing.

Eberron:

The Forge of War: Does this book detail adventures set during the Last War?  Does it give ideas for military campaign a la Heroes of Battle?  What can it provide for my Eberron games?

My setting recommendations:

FR:

I mentioned the Campaign Setting and Silver Marches in an earlier post.  Both of these books provide a lot of awesome stuff for an enterprising DM/player (Silver Marches is more of a DM book, though it fleshes out societies for native characters).

Underdark: This details the underground catacombs and civilizations beneath Faerun's surface.  Great material regarding the Drow, Underdark cities, and how different and alien a world this is (ever tried venturing into the Lowerdark).  Take this book, some options from Oslecamo's Improved Monster Classes, and Green Ronin's Plot & Poison or Drow of the Underdark, shake and stir, and you've got an all-monster campaign that can take place entirely in the Underdark!  This idea is made of win!

Eberron:

Sharn: City of Towers: Oh man, this the standard by which city-based sourcebooks should be judged!  Ever wanted to have a chase scene on airships and griffons?  How about a good old-fashioned dungeon crawl in the Undercity?  You've got all that and a bag of chips for a pulp-style City of Adventure for your PCs to explore!

Magic of Eberron: Great assortment of magic items and spells for your games.  Eternal Wands and Schema are basically reusable wands and scrolls; highly recommended money-savers for long-term campaigns.

Knight of the Weave is great!

And Thaalud Stone Armor, though that pales in comparison to how powerful Sharn are of course.

Color me intrigued.  What happened to the Sharn in the Anauroch adventure?

Is there any place to buy books online that aren't balls-to-the-wall expensive? I need to find a copy of MiC for $40 or less, and the cheapest it gets on Amazon is $50 (used, mind you) Any pointers?
What would you think if I sang out of tune?

If you know where you're looking and aren't married to the idea of a hard-copy, you can find PDF's online for much cheaper.

More cost-effective in the long run to buy a printer.

Complete Champion: I like Ordained Champion (melee cleric) and Paragnostic Apostle (divine/arcane caster). As well as some alternate class features (Pool of Healing for Clerics). They also have some nice stuff on organisations :)

Five Nations (Eberron): I also use the Bone Knight-PrC from there. Interesting class for melee clerics, or for Paladins gone bad. Havent read through the rest of the book tho. There's only 24 hours a day :(
