Dr. Doom's Floating Throne
« on: March 29, 2012, 11:48:49 PM »
What's the cheapest way to make a floating chair that can be summoned to the owner quickly and repeatedly?  This is purely to make a PC feel cool and does not need to have any mechanical benefit.  This player just likes things that have a rules backing other than "the DM says this works."

Let's see ....

Levitate is a 2nd level spell.
There's not really a "summon item" spell (that I know of); however, there are a couple that give precedent.  Summon Instrument is a Bard2; Summon Mount is a Pal2.  So, you come up with a 2nd level spell that summons an item that you want (alternatively, you could have the player take Item Familiar, and base it off of the Call Familiar spell, which is a wiz/sorc3 ... but then it's a f'n Item Familiar!).

So, at-will, I think that we're looking at about ....
(2x5x2000x2) + (2x5x1800x0.75) = 53500gp.
That seems pretty high.
Making it restricted use can get that down to around the 32k neighborhood.  Hmmm ..... making it have 50 charges and then go inert, instead of unlimited, can get that down to 16k.

Fuck that -- just tell him it's 10k, and be done with it.  Hell, Hanks fucking Energy Bow is only a tad over 22k, and it's Hank's fucking Energy Bow.  Surely a goddamned floating chair can't be more than that.

Flying carpet (200lb. capacity) is 20k.  Throw a 5x/day calling/summoning feature on it for 5k, and you're done.

If its just for show, you could probably cut the flight speed / max altitude to cut the costs.

I'd say just reflavor Tenser's Floating Disk.

Speaking of which - Talisman of the Disk (MIC-188) - Tenser's Floating Disk, 3 hours/day, 500gp.
