Extradimensional Sniper in a Rope Trick?
« on: April 27, 2012, 09:41:45 PM »
I have a guy in a rope trick (the rope is pulled up) 10 feet up. He has invisible spell/transdimensional spell magic missile in a wand he made. Can he shoot his wand out of the Rope Trick Window at people with impunity? I'm thinking so, but I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something.

Nope.

Spells cannot be cast across the extradimensional interface, nor can area effects cross it.

I think he could plink at them with a crossbow, though.

Yes, but that was written before Transdimensional Spell, the metamagic feat.

Quote from: Transdimensional Spell
A trans-dimensional spell has its full normal effect on incorporeal creatures, creatures on the Ethereal Plane or the Plane of Shadow, and creatures within an extra dimensional space in the spell’s area. Such creatures include ethereal creatures, creatures that are blinking or shadow walking, manifested ghosts, and creatures within the extra dimensional space of a rope trick, portable hole, or familiar pocket.

But the feat is assuming you are attacking someone INSIDE the rope trick. Would the spell let someone from inside the rope trick attack someone in Normal Space?

Was that part about transdimensional spell always in the first post? Somehow I missed that...

In that case, it is debatable. A strict reading of the RAW says it only works to attack someone inside the Rope Trick, as you said, but it seems reasonable that it should work both ways.
