Bow of the Solars

If by some unlikely way a level 8 character found one what would be the best build possible for it? Unearthed Arcana and all the Completes allowed.

If you just mean the bow that a Solar uses, then it's nothing special to get one of those.

If you want to optimize the usage of the bow itself, you would probably want to get as many shots as possible. Haste, rapidshot, manyshot, splitting enhancements, manyfang enhancements, etc.

Ah, thanks.

The Arrowsplit spell is worthy of mention, then, if things work with that as I think they do.

With that bow, you can force a DC 20 fort save-or-die on every attack.  Optimization by the Numbers says the average fort save for a CR 8 creature is 9.19 (max 16).

Paladin of tyranny (Unerthed Arcana, p54) lets you inflict a -2 penalty to the saving throws of all enemies within 10 feet.  You'd need one of the abilities that lets you shoot a bow without drawing attacks of opportunity to use that effectively.

The dark companion alternative class feature (Player's Handbook II, p47) for hexblade (Complete Warrior) lets you inflict lets you inflict an additional -2 penalty to the saving throws of enemies.

If you take the bind vestige feat (Tome of Magic, p72) and use it to bind Focalor (Tome of Magic, p31), you can inflict a -2 penalty to the saving throws of all adjacent enemies.

So, paladin of tyranny 3 / hexblade 4 / exotic weapon master 1 (Complete Warrior) with bind vestige should use that bow very well.

Grab Unseelie fey if you are allowed. That way if someone makes it to melee range they will pretty much be guaranteed dead.

So lowering the saves is better than mass firing and hoping they roll low? Or is there a way to do both?

You can certainly do both. None of the things mentioned so far take anything more than a free/swift action, IIRC.

Oh hey, missed this thread.

Core+UA+Completes? Basically SRD & Complete right? Reason I ask on the SRD part is the SRD includes the Epic Level Handbook. The none-epic Enhance Item feat found in the ELH on page 114 adjusts the Save DCs to reflect the crafter's ability modifier rather than the minimum, so if this bow it pumping out Slaying Arrows it would in turn change those Save DCs.

The Save DC of a Slaying Arrow is 20 and broken down it is 10 for the base, +7 for Finger of Death's Spell Level, and +3 for the 17 minimum needed to cast it. Enhance Item & 34 Int/Wis/Cha would make this DC 29, a 9 point improvement. Of course, who said 34 was the highest possible score you could get?

So the first step is to get a good version of this bow, then build around it.  :smirk

Is that feat actually on the SRD because I cant find it and if i cant provide the text its a no go. And Im pretty sure i would get a book to the head for asking for a more OP version of a weapon like that.

No, it's closed content. Like how 99% of the books appear were released as public information, "Enhance Item" is comparable to Beholders and which deities grant which domains. Meaning the details can only be found in the book them selves and not the websites.

Edit - You know, I'm pretty sure it got left out due to being in a rather odd location more than anything else. It's certainly not a "how to play" or identity based and even D&D Tools hasn't heard of this feat. It is amazing what "read the books" can do for you.

Open the book and read it?

I recall posting
"Basically SRD & Complete right? Reason I ask on the SRD part is the SRD includes the Epic Level Handbook."
Because it's true. Core (mentioned) + UA (mentioned) + Divine (typically dm only) + ELH (typically epic only) and Psionics (mentioned, part of complete line) are all SRD. Each have sets of closed content and open content but functionally those books are part of the SRD. So ask you're DM if it's allowed for sure or not. If so, either craft the bow your self at a later date or cheese up some crafter contacts to do it for you now.

I see the logic but i meant what i said in the opening post. UA and the Compltes plus SRD. No EL handbook.
