[PF] Razmiran Priest: Ghetto Archivst?
« on: May 12, 2012, 01:34:16 AM »
Found this while looking through the PFSRD. It's 9th level ability lets it power scrolls/wands with Sorcerer slots one level higher. While you don't get your CL/Stats (I think there is something in PF that lets you use your CL and stats on magic items, may have been Wizard only though), and have to make a UMD check (but you auto beat any UMD check you need on a 1 by level 9 if you don't dump charisma thanks to a boost this class gives.)

While PF doesn't have lots of obscure divine classes to pull from like 3.5 did, Cleric+Domains, Druid, Adept, Paladin (edit:And Anti-Paladin), Ranger and Inquisitor still looks pretty open to abuse. Plus you are a spontaneous archivist with no limit (beyond GP) to spells known (and level 1-4 spells are uber cheep with partially charged wands): Hello tier 1.

Edit: Can this be moved to the minmax section?

I'm glad PF fixed 3.5 and got rid of the cheese.

WTF?

seriously WTF?

-------

Quote
(and level 1-4 spells are uber cheep with partially charged wands)
The ability according to pathfinder srd works with spell trigger items (such as wands), and spell completion items (such as scrolls).  Thus it costs this amount to add the spell to the sorcerer's spells known (assuming no expensive gp components or xp components, using a spell made by a cleric that you bought at a market)

25gp- Level 1
150gp- Level 2
375gp- Level 3
700gp- Level 4
1125gp- Level 5
1650gp- Level 6
2275gp- Level 7
3000gp- Level 8
3825gp- Level 9

-------

You don't need any weird spell lists beyond normal cleric and normal druid with this ability to completely break it.  You are a normal full spellcaster with your sorcerer spell slots, and as long as the spell is 1 lower than your max spell levels you can cast any cleric or druid spell spontaneously with no preparation.  Just throw those scrolls into a bag of holding where it is a full round action to retrieve, or a move action via the infiinite scrollcase (can store up to 50 scrolls costs 2,800gp), or a move action for 10 scrolls via a belt of hidden pouches (5,000 gp) and a standard action for the remaining 20 scrolls.

Spellsight Spectacles (2,500 gp MIC) gives you a +5 competence bonus to use UMD.

20+CL is the target
Levels+3 due to keeping UMD pumped
Levels/2 (so at level 9 this is a +4 modifier)
Cha
Spellsight Spectacles give a +5 competence bonus
5 ranks in Spellcraft give a +2 synergy bonus
5 ranks in Decipher Script give a +2 synergy bonus
Levels+3 (class skill bonus)+4 (Razmiran Priest)+5 (Spellsight Spectacles)+2 (Synergy)+2 (Synergy)=Levels+16+Cha Modifier
But remember you also get the d20 roll and a roll of 1 on a skill check is not considered a failure, thus you area going to get Levels+17+Cha Modiifer

So as long as your charisma is 16 or higher starting at level 9 you auto succeed on the UMD check to use the scroll.

------

Seriously this ability is WTF

Also, the feat it gains as a level 1 class feature:

Quote
False Focus
You can use a divine focus to cast arcane spells.
Prerequisites: Knowledge (religion) 1 rank, ability to cast arcane spells.
Benefit: By using a divine focus as part of casting, you can cast any spell with a material component costing the value of that divine focus (maximum 100 gp) or less without needing that component. For example, if you use a silver holy symbol worth 25 gp, you do not have to provide material components for an arcane spell if its components are worth 25 gp or less. The casting of the spell still provokes attacks of opportunity as normal. If the spell requires a material component that costs more than the value of the divine focus, you must have the material component on hand to cast the spell, as normal.
Normal: A divine focus has no effect when used as a component in arcane spells.

^ Wonder why that isn't in the SRD.

Fabricate seems very abuse-able given the raw materials are the Material Components. The spell allows you to grab ANY mundane item worth less than 300 gold instantaneously.

Spellsight Spectacles (2,500 gp MIC) gives you a +5 competence bonus to use UMD.

A 3.5 item though. Luckily Pathfinder gives a new "Headband" slot and a Circlet of Persuasion occupies the Head/Helmet slot instead. No Synergy bonuses in PF either. Still auto-success.

Bag of holding is too big. Efficient Quiver is cheep, holds 60 items the same "general size and shape as an arrow" (which is loose enough that a polarm counts as a bow) and "6 to 12 inches long, 1/4 inch thick, and weighs no more than 1 ounce" easily fits an arrow, and the scroll (8-1/2 inches wide and 11) could potentially fit in the javelin slot and is at most a move action or an action that can be done as part of movement per standard drawing rules. Plus is has none of the nasty clauses about being damaged.

As for cool spells to abuse this with, a 1 charge wand of Bestow Grace of Champion is 600 GP and gives: Charisma to Saves (take that Sorcadins!), Immunity to Fear, swift action heal 3d6, detect evil at will, smite once (Swift action to gain extra damage on all rolls, which includes spells and presumably ability damage spells too, and charisma mod as a deflection bonus to AC against one foe) doesn't need a UMD check to use Paladin items and because it is a Paladin spell, it's only level 4 (thus taking a 5th level spell slot). You need to be Lawful Good, but "defector" is a cheap backstory that you will be using anyways to explain why you aren't in Razmir territory.

edit: Ahaha! I knew there was a way to get your own CL and ability mod on magic items in PF! When I suggested it as an alternate to a Mystic Theurge, they noticed Cyphermage is good combo, sadly takes 15 int to enter (less of an issue to him being in a 2 man campaign with higher stats.).

Pathfinder Savant seems to be a good prestige class to add after the 9th level of Sorcerer
It is located here and is from the Seeker of Secrets pathfinder accessory.
http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/prestige-classes/other-paizo/n-r/pathfinder-savant

The 1st level ability allows you to take 10 on UMD checks
The 3rd level ability allows you to use your caster level for the purpose of scrolls

Wow, that is seriously ...  :o

The CPsi nerf of the powerstone recharge trick takes
more time, but requires less skill result optimizing.
Erudite Spell To Power is near this, but a bit behind.

The Pathfinder Savant PrC is definitely good. Still, I wouldn't discount the Cyphermage PrC for boosted scroll casting myself. Unlike Savant, it doesn't have a dead spellcasting level, but then again, it also doesn't have Esoteric Magic for crazy spell access, esp. the ridiculously overpowered spell level discounts through the Summoner list. The int requirements (esp. for the Focused Scroll cypherlore) aren't a problem if you use the Sage bloodline (int caster) with the Pragmatic Activator magic trait (UMD now an int skill), although this does weaken your Bestow Grace of the Champion spell.
