Psicrystal + Item Familiar = ??

What happens ... and/or is it worth it ?

I don't see why it wouldn't work.
The psicrystal could qualify for some small stuff earlier.
Psion, PsyWar and Erudite have the feat slots for it.

I don't see why it would work at all.  A Psicrystal is a creature, not an item.

It wouldn't have many skill points to invest, and the XP bonus would be wasted.  But any of the other abilities would be cool, and the whole "familiar with a familiar" concept is just neat.  And this way is less cheesy than having your Psicrystal's Psicyrstal's Psicrystal take Psicrystal Affinity and Improved Psicrystal a million times.

Maybe a Fusion + PAO to turn it into a valuable item (as in > 0 gp) ?

This is a little more interesting, especially with KellK's Shard of Leadership approach.

Well, item familiar needs the item to a) have a price of at least 2000 gp, b) be usable by the character and c) have a permanent magical effect that the character can (and knows how to) use

Ring of Protection +1. The Psycrystal wears it as a crown on its head. It's usable by the Psycrystal and it knows how to use it.

I've had DMs tell me that I had to use a gemstone to infuse with a psicrystal personality, and IIRC Untapped Potential has a variant rule saying that if you lose your psicrystal you need a gemstone to replace it. As long as your DM says you can do that then you should be able to stick a personality in, say, an item familiar ioun stone.

Also, ioun stone qualities. And if you're using Hyperconscious, look into the psicrystal staves. There's not a LOT of awesome there, but there's a bit of good stuff.

Hmm. How about the kiira n'vaelahr and dukar hand coral, from Player's Guide to Faerun and Champions of Valor, respectively? Have it crawl around in your body a bit. It can't be targeted, and if you turn it into something akin to a psionic version of a schema (basically scroll or power stone that functions 1/day) then you can have some emergency panic buttons set to go off when you need them.

Do correct me if I am wrong, but isn't a psicrystal a construct and thus, an item?

Or is there a ruling I'm missing where not all constructs are considered items?

(I don't post much, but this made me curious-especially since I may be planning a minion master item crafter in another campaign)

Intelligent items are considered constructs. But regular constructs are not items, they're creatures.

"only one demiplane at A time" , but pull demiplanes all
across the multiverse of timeS.
