Help on fixing a gish build
« on: May 16, 2012, 08:54:25 PM »
So I was going over some of my old notes and I found this build. It has three points of rules problems, since it was a forgiving GM. Now I'm trying to fix it, so I could re-use it elsewhere. The primary goal of this exercise is to drop the tweaked rules and make this legal by RAW.
It's also somewhat mad needing high cha and wis and benefiting a lot from high physical stats. The solution should still be a Spirit Shaman with unarmed attacks, part of the goal was to utilise the bite of the X spells. The original race was lesser assimar for the cha/wis bonus.

2 Monk - Bonus Feats: Combat Reflexes Stunning Fist
3 Spirit Shaman
2 Mystic Wanderer
3 Prestige Paladin
10 Sacred Fist (full casting)

Problems:
  • Chastise Spirits is not Turn Undead. The GM allowed the paladin to advance it instead of Turn Undead as they have similar mechanics.
  • Mystic Wanderer has the Alignment restriction: Not Lawful.
  • Mystic Wanderer is 3.0 and setting specific. This is a minor problem but lets resolve it if we can.

Pros;
Cast as druid meaning Bite of X spells.
Casts 9'th level spells, 17 BAB
high AC, high saves + evasion
mount and familiar. Not sure why you would want them but you have them anyway.

Cons;
MAD, needs his wis and cha, int can't be too low and benefits from all 3 physical stats.
Technically not a legal build.

Well, you can fix MAD somewhat by getting access to the Polymorph via the Transformation Domain. Then you can just replace your physical stats.  You can also dump Cha since you're Gishing and don't care about your save DCs; axe the prestige paladin for comtemplative and play a changeling or shifter or something.

EDIT: you could also use Martial Monk to get better feats.

It's begun — my things have overgrown the previous sig.

- Suggest prestige paladin of freedom?  Not RAW, but easy to make.
- Get chaotic subtype to count as chaotic while you're also lawful

Aspect of the Wolf, Aspect of the Earth Hunter, Shapechange. I'm sure there are more but there are druid spells that change your shape and stats without dipping for other spell lists. Tough again mostly 3.0 I believe.

Though dropping the paladin for contemplative is interesting that does bring down my bab, and Cha to AC and Saves is nice.

The feat selection is to Qualify for sacred fist. There is basicly 3 junk feats required, one for each PrC's; Otyugh Hole, Mounted Combat, Combat Caster. In addition to that I need all 3 feats that the monk provides for Sacred Fist.

Well part of the problem is that I want to move away from the Not RAW part. Although gaining an alignment subtype is an interesting idea.

Is fractional BAB used here?  It's typically needed for heavy multiclassing and WotC has made it a valid choice through http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/sg/20060303a.  Like much of their advice it's in Rule 0 territory, but a properly educated DM will implement it.

I'm guessing the Serenity feat to change a Paladin's Cha stuff to Wis isn't on the table?  Bit of a pity if so, but understandable since it's Dragon Mag.

Serenity and going just wis focused is a good idea. As to partial BaB, most local games run without it but it's an option. I'm mostly fishing for ideas so I can just clear it with a GM and play, or at least have some alternative options if some are nixed, once there is a game either tabletop or PbP open.

If Dragon Compendium is allowed, a Diabolus is a +1 race that has the [Chaotic] subtype.

Though you want the [Law] subtype, not the [Chaotic] subtype...
