Ummm... >70% of my D&D Exp has been in Toril, and yet I have never heard of this "blue age" you speak of.
I cannot even find it in my copy of the Grand History.
That said, for all of your "history of the realms" needs: please consult the book "The Grand History of the Realms".

And page 5 start out mentioning that age as the Days of Thunder, and it being an Ice Age. Basically, before -37,000 DR was nothing other than tribes of some of the creator races surviving the ice age in between when Shar and Selune made Toril, and when the ice age ended.

Days of Thunder were -35.000 DR+ ,no?So what I meant can`t possibly be that age because it is newer than what I intended.By the way I don't think there were living non-Deities before the days of thunder.

"The Blue Age was a time in the ancient history of Abeir-Toril when life on the planet resided in a single, vast ocean. The Dawn War between the gods and the primordials raged mostly over this unfortunate planet at the time and one of the primordials, Dendar the Night Serpent, devoured one of Selûne's most favored creations, the sun (a feat her sister Shar had been attempting since its creation). The temperatures on Abeir-Toril subsequently dropped markedly and not long afterward, most life on the planet became extinct. Thus ended the Blue Age and gave rise to the Shadow Epoch"
from the wiki I mentioned. But i cant tell how reliable it really is.For now it worked well enough. But as only source it had "Forgotten Realms Campaign Guide 4th Edition" p.42 gonna check that up.

So from what I get it was like :
First: Nightserpent devoured sun
Second: Nightserpent gets mauled
third: new sun rises -> days of thunder

Ok here the quote from Campaign guide to faerun:

"The Creation
In the beginning existed a misty realm of timeless nothingness, crafted by Ao the Hidden One from the raw elemental bedlam of the Phlogiston. Within this dim sphere, several worlds drifted upon the Sea of Night. Though the worlds were lifeless and barren at this time, powerful beings of manifest entropy andelemental might coveted them. The name of their kind has been lost to the ages; the few sages who today know of their existence refer to them simply as the primordials. Unknown to the primordials, detritus remaining from its creation coalesced around the universe as an ocean of silvery liquid. From this glittering realm of starlight formed beautiful twin beings, polar opposites of each other, one dark and one light. The twin goddesses birthed of the Astral Sea quickly moved to defend the virgin worlds from the destructive primordials.
Other gods were created from the residue of the deific battles or summoned from other dimensions to aid in the fight against the primordials and their monstrous servants.

Shadow Epoch
While the gods and primordials contested for ages, life struggled into existence on the worlds they coveted. The blue jewel Toril sparkled brightest of them all, home to a race of sea creatures that huddled in the depths of the world’s single vast ocean. This Blue Age came to a sudden and chilling end when Toril was inexplicably plunged into darkness, its sun snatched from the sky by a sinister primordial known as the Night Serpent. Global temperatures plummeted, and soon, most life on the planet became extinct. Little is known of this Shadow Epoch, but sarrukh myths and legends speak of climactic battles throughout this age between the primordials and the Elder Gods led by Ouroboros the World Serpent. Ultimately, the tide was turned when the primordials were betrayed by one of their own. Ubtao the Deceiver assisted the elder gods in slaying, imprisoning,or driving away the remaining primordials."

Forgotten Realms Campaign Guide, p. 41ff

I don`t think it is that bad after all.At least one knows now what happened before the days of thunder.Rembers me a "little" of nordic mythology.
Gods vs Giants?A big serpent? Not very creative...

Did not know that.Strange though. Why would they want to change a pretty cool story?

Edit: I found this Snake In 3.5.Champions of Ruin p.144.But it had not the title primordial or something.

What was before the Days of Thunder was mentioned in F&P under the descriptions of the gods. It was established. He ret-conned much of the history. Which it did not need.
Unnecessary Ret-Con = Nerdrage.

As far as why: I. do. not. know.
As you pointed out, the former story, the one I know, had a lot more originality than this new one. It had a lot more consistency too, seeing as it did not change much between 2-3-3.5, but changed just as much for 4E as, oh, I don't know, Bahumut being opposed by Lolth would be a change to established cosmologies. Oh, Wait....

Nerd. Rage.
RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!! :shakefist :shakefist :shakefist :shakefist

While I didn't necessary liked Mystra, the fact that they turned her into Kenny of the realms was totally unoriginal.....
"You killed Mystra again you bastards".....
Also I  completely disliked what they did with the Drow, they had a completely fleshed pantheon and they klled them all for simplicity's sake......

I personally don`t care what they`ve done to mystra and such. When your timeline only plays to 3.5 Faerun there should not be much of a problem. But I think retrospective changes that mess with the continuity of the pre established world are total bullshit. They want it to stay the same universe, thats why they don`t just create a new faerun but continue the old timeline, but they change things earlier established anyway.
So why bother not making a new system after all?

But enough rant.My question got kinda answered because I got those wiki articles wrong in the assumption they wouldn`t change things retrospective.
