Need a quick Wizard build for tomorrow (ECL 3 - 3.P)
« on: June 01, 2012, 10:28:01 PM »
All Wizards/Paizo sources allowed, including magazines. The only real stipulation I have is that it has to be a WIZARD and the race is locked into LESSER TEIFLING. I will not make it to level 20. At best (it will take a miracle for us to play this long) the campaign will end at level 15. The rest of the party is:

"Waste of Space" Cleric 2
Ranged Ranger 2
Pistolero Gunslinger 2
Enchanter-type Bard 2

So I should probably go with a BFC Conjurer to let me ranged DPR pals do the dirty work. Flaws and traits are available. I had considered Mercantile Background and the trait "Rich Parents" from Pathfinder for some extra starting gold. I could also sell my Spell Book for a boost. Let me know what ideas you guys have and if you don't mind submitting builds, that would help. I have to have this ready tomorrow and I work bright and early. You can find the Pathfinder Wizard here.

Best,

Woodrow

Looks like it's missing abrupt jaunt. Also, herd of mules.
Normally, I would be reading this, open the reply box, decide what I had to say didn't need said, and close out. But this is just too ridiculous.

Ban evocation over necromancy.  Necromancy can grab cool and useful minions at level 7, with useful save or dies/sucks.  Evocation provides nothing good at low levels, and contingency can be prepped in pathfinder anyway for the cost of two slots.  Lastly, you are a conjurer, should you for some reason need to blast, the conjuration blasts are better because they ignore SR.  You could also (if the game is to stay low levels) probably get away with banning transmutation rather than enchantment if you would rather have more low-level save or loses.

Since BOTH WoTC and Pathfinder materials are allowed, I might use Pathfinder's persistent spell (the one that forces the opponents to save twice) and the 3.5 metamagic reducers to do stupid things - like taking Metamagic School Focus, Pathfinder Persist, and Easy Metamagic(Pathfinder Persist) to turn 3 spells into save twice or lose.  There are plenty of metamagic reducers out there, have fun!

As I don't know anything about Pf, I'd build this (then change what you can from Pf if it's better). It's similar to the one you have, with a few minor changes

Focused Specialist Conjurer Wizard 2 -> Focused specialist from CMage
(Ban Evocation, Enchantment and another one of your choice)
Inscribe Scroll -> Martial Wizard variant (you get a Fighter bonus feat) -> Improved Initiative
Trade your familiar for Abrupt Jaunt
Feat Obtain Familiar -> Hummingbird (+4 Initiative)
Trait Agressive -> +2 Initiative, -1 AC
2 Flaws if you are allowed (if everything is allowed, these should be too) (Noncombatant, Murky-eyed)
Feats:
1- Obtain Familiar
Bonus 1- Spell focus (conjuration)
Bonus 2- Cloudy Conjuration
Now you are sitting at +14 Initiative. Lay down BFC before the mere mortals  can even say "oh shi*!"  :D

Okay, so the Conjurer worked okay. We are playing in a PF campaign setting and are following the story from the books, but the NPC's are all jacked up as high as possible (the last adventure, the one my last PC died in, the CR 2 Goblins had about 80hp each and 2 Class levels - Elite template cheese from a WoW d20 book). This game the DM just used more regular Goblins and NPC's because we only had 3 people in the party.

We did some investigation into who has an allience with the Goblins and is helping them raid Sandpoint. Our searching took us to a glass factory and we climbed on the roof, an allied Pistolero shot up the glass ceiling, I Abrupt Jaunted down and sculpted a Grease to hit every Goblin. Then when we starting rolling terribly for a few rounds and to save time I intimidated them all into running which wasn't hard since we have clout in the Goblin community. "Those are the long shanks that foiled our raid on the church dedication ceremony!", they cried. We trailed them to their immediate leader, a guy named something East Asian like Mitsubishi Kawasaki (at least that's what I called him). In this room I just Sculpted a color spray on eight Goblins and the 5HD Unarmed Swordsage that was leading them. The next three rounds, my ranged allies cleaned him up after he charged me only to get jaunted.

We called it quits since several people didn't show up. I played a very rushed version of the character that I'd like to, though, and my DM has agreed to let me retool. I'd like to keep Sculpt Spell since I've already used it several times, but I just leveled to 3 and am ready to advance and retool.

Any spellbook advice (all sources) or feat advice? I plan on looking over the aforementioned feats. Thanks!

Edit: Here's the current character sheet. I am not sure what my second Trait should be or how to spend my gold.

Are you using Pathfinder or WoTC traits?  I know each of them has +X initiative traits, that's what I'd recommend.  Go first -> use persistent (pathfinder) save or sucks -> beat goblins with inflated hp and saves (via the magic of the rerolling) ->win fight.

I also third abrupt jaunt.  Not dying is the shiznit.

Yeah I have Abrupt Jaunt. I don't know if it's reflected in that character sheet I liked or not. Kissed the Familiar goodbye. He has 18 DEX and Improved Initiative. I suppose I could take a trait that gives Initiative bonuses, but it seems like another metamagic reducer for a spell I use often would be nice.

What's a good Reflex and Fort save or suck/BFC spell at level 1-2? I want to cover all saves (FORT, WILL, RFLX).

I think ghoul touch hits fort.  As for reflex, web can hit that but I don't know what pathfinder did to it.

Will -> Color spray, Sleep

Ray of enfeeblement doesn't allow a save if I recall, and is really nice
Ray of clumsiness. Less AC, Initiative for the enemies
Grease. Reflex + Balance or to the ground. It's basically a "you lose, ha-ha" button
Wall of smoke too

Now, all seriously, why do you want to make them save? It's better when they can't even save, or when it's meaningless  :D

Why don't you list some low level no save or sucks? I don't know any. I'm browsing now trying to find some good spells for my book.

One of the PF Sorc thingies trades skill points
for spells known, at a 1 for 1 cost.  Yah rilly.
I stopped paying attention after that one.
:??? ... idk where it is now.

EDIT  ---  found a reference back at BG

I recall a PF boost, that lets Sorcs trade Skill Points for spells.
Really.
Sorc 1 with Versatile stuff / Rogue maybe Feat Rogue 2 with lots of Int.
trade a whole bunch of those skill points

**
spells known, to a limit of one level lower than your maximum. It's a favored class choice in the APG for humans. If sorc is your favored class, you can gain an extra spell known instead of an extra skill point or hit point.

** so if this means anything to you, it's good.
Like I said, idk now.
