Fiend of Corruption Handbook Discussion
« on: June 28, 2012, 12:09:34 AM »
Alright here's the discussion area. Feel free to add any suggestions or critiques you want. I'll be able to finish the handbook up soon hopefully. I should be able to with how little I sleep anymore...

Excellent choice of picture.  :cool

IIRC, the Lesser Planetouched in FRCS aren't actually outsiders, instead being Humanoid (Planetouched). Instead, try using the Savage Progressions for Tiefling/Aasimar that WotC has on their site (just take the race with 0 levels of the progression class). It gives lesser racial traits than a lesser Aasimar/Tiefling, but you keep the Outsider type.

Also, since you have to spend a feat on Otherworldly anyways, Human isn't as great a racial choice as it looks. The usual reason to be Human is for the bonus feat, but since you effectively lose it, the point is lost and you'll only really be ahead compared to other non-outsiders (who can still get Otherworldly with that Celestial Attended Birth thing everyone always quotes from Complete Champion).

Thank you. The template class with no levels is what I was thinking of lol, dunno why I put lesser.

Fixed the human entry.

And thank you very much for correcting my link... I'll keep both just in case someone wants to go to the end.

Sorry about the slow work on this I got real busy real fast, I will try and have it finished (but not finalized) by the end of this week.

So... for all the high opportunity costs, what exactly is this class good for? I don't remember being impressed with it at all...

Oh no this class sucks hardcore. I just thought it fit the idea of the devil quite well and I like it so I thought I'd make a handbook. It's definitely a "Down Two" PrC.

EDIT: It is however the only PrC that can do what it does. And also gives two different ninth level spells.

The soul ownership ability seems to mostly be useful for selling to devils for various favors yourself. Team up with your wizard buddy when he planar binds some denizens of the lower planes?
This might come in handy:

Yeah souls can be traded for some great favors, used as currency, used to make magic items, and to gain property in the Abyss! all great things! But holy crap that guide is amazing! I don't know why I've never seen it before! That was a great read! Thank you very much!

I may not be of great use myself, but I have an extensive repertoire of link and such to collections of useful knowledge.
One thing you may consider is having a small section rating the various fiendish grafts, things like the Clawed Arm kinda rock for an untyped +4 strength, while the flexible arm pretty much doesn't.

I'll probably just link the graft handbook, as I don't want to use up too much space on things that are already written. However; If you know or want to find page numbers for the different uses of souls that would be great. Also I think there were a few dragon magazines that contained stuff you could do with souls that would be very useful, but I cant seem to find the articles again...

This is one of those classes that's more fun as a DM. I like to put DM PCs out there like this PrC that are essentially tools for PCs to hang themselves, or at least get themselves into misbegotten adventures.

I also run my campaigns in Forgotten Realms, so when my PCs die, they often find themselves being tempted by such creatures on the Fugue Plane before ascending/descending to their afterlife if they don't get a quick rez.

How does otherworldly qualify you for the class? Being an evil outsider is not the same as being an outsider with evil subtype... or am I missing something?

You have to use the ritual of alignment from savage species. Haven't gotten that far in the guide yet haha. Real life is getting busy...

Divine disciple from the players guide to faerun pg51 at 5th level it gives outsider type and evil subtype if your diety and you are evil. Needs 4th level divine spells though.

Okay so I cannot for the life of me find the articles on what to do with souls that I was reading... If anyone knows anything about where they are please let me know... This is very frustrating.

Also any suggestions for good races, and synergistic prc's or classes would be great, as I'm only going to start adding the few I really like, but I would love to add everyone elses favorites too!

The book of vile darkness has rules for using souls to power magic items and spells. The fiendish codex 2 has rules for faustian bargains but it is clear they didn't think of players being on the devil side. I also believe there was a dragon magazine issue that had to do with souls. If I find it I'll let you know.
