My Eat-Your-Face Pony: Friends are Delicious
« on: July 17, 2012, 11:34:23 PM »
I've been throwing around a build for a while, either as a villain, or, if I get a chance, a PC. It's gotten to the point where I am satisfied enough with it to start getting advice. Starts at level 11.

Strongheart Halfling Paladin of Tyranny 6/Beastmaster 1/Ashworm Dragoon 1/Outrider 3(Outrider +7/??? 2)
Planar Paladin sub at level 6
14/14/14/14/12/14, post level and racial bonuses
1) SF: Handle Animal
R) Mounted Combat
3) Mounted Archery
6) Ride-By Attack
9) Devoted Tracker
(12) Natural Bond
(15) Spirited Charge
(18) ???

And I really want Natural Bond earlier, but the idea of the super-Evil McEvilsalot having the Celestial Companion was too funny to pass up.

All paladins are, in my group, allowed to take Devoted Tracker and similar abilities, despite not having Smite Evil assuming they are of the correct alignment. Also, I am assuming that the Dragoon and Pally stack after getting the Ashworm to be counted as a mount, rather than getting the extra Dragoon stuff like that. Slightly more balanced and makes slightly more sense.

And, onto the cute widdwe cwitta

Warbeast Celestial Ashworm
Size/Type:   Large Magical Beast
Hit Dice:   4d10+8d8+60(122HP)
Initiative:   +5
Speed:   35 ft. (7 squares) in Full Plate barding, base speed 50 ft.
Armor Class:   18 (-1 size, +1 Dex, +15 natural, +8 Full Plate barding), touch 10, flat-footed 32
Base Attack/Grapple:   +12/+25
Attack:   Tentacle +20 melee (1d6+9)
Full Attack:   2 Tentacles +20 melee (1d6+9) and Gore +20 melee (2d6+4) and Stinger +20 melee (1d6+4 plus Poison)
Space/Reach:   10 ft./10 ft.
Special Attacks:    Poison, Smite Evil
Special Qualities:Evasive Diver, Tremorsense 60 ft, Empathic Link, Improved Evasion, Share Spells, Share Saves, Darkvision 60 ft, DR 10/Magic, Resistance to Acid, Cold, and Electricity 10, Spell Resistance 17
Saves:   Fort +13, Ref +9, Will +6
Abilities:   Str 28, Dex 12, Con 20, Int 6, Wis 15, Cha 6
Skills:   Okay, not bothering
Feats:   Mourning Mutate, Inhuman Reach, Deepspawn, Multiattack, Improved Multiattack

The gore attack is from a purchased Goring Horn(FF, P212), for 8000,

Other gear? A +1 Valorous Lance is 8000, +4 Strength Belt is 16K, a +1 Glammered Breastplate 7050 GP, a Battle Bridle is 9K, Heward's built into Shiftweave, which would be 3.5K, IIRC, and a Cloak of Weaponry for 2.3K, for a little over 11K left.

So, thoughts? Fixes? Thanks.

Looks like you are trying to supermount. I hold the record of that here (build #3) but its a dragon for coolness, not a pony. Feel free to pillage.

I'm on some mind-altering drugs right now, but I'll take a look when I'm off'em

"Warbeast Celestial Ashworm"

"Paladin of Tyranny"

The sub isn't meant for a Evil Paladin, however since your flavoring it as such wouldn't it make more sense for it to be a Fiendish Ashworm?

I think your mount would try to smite you as a paladin of tyranny rather than allow you to ride it.
Something Funny?

Celestial is "Always Good." "Always" means 95%. Celestial template is amazing for what I wanted, the Smite Evil just gives me a bit of coverage, since Evil isn't one big happy family.

And that supermount is cool, but I dislike the dragon minion, as Draconomicon says they cost a lot and have some upkeep concerns. Also, they gain HD, but as far as I see, they don't advance, so I don't see how you got a great wyrm.

But, since you appear to know more on the subject that I do, is there a better way to get a bigger pet? I wanted the Supermoose of the Iron Glacier, but LN or LG only, a griffon is any nonevil, evil just doesn't get the fun pets. Oh well, the tremorsense is nice.

Yeah dragons are different. Getting a larger pet is good assuming you want to ride the pet or you are going to always be outside.

I'm not trippin so bad though now. Still sleepy.

I once tried to build something like this out of a hummingbird... it did not work well.

I misphrased that. By "Bigger" I mean "Nastier, stronger, with more HD."

What I really wanted was to go LG Pally 5/Bone  Knight 1/Moose of the Iron Glacier 1/Beastmaster 1/Outrider 3, but Bone Knight removes your pet. Is there a way to get a moose, or any other bigger, meaner pet while LE?

littha: Really? That's awesome. You used Arcane Heirophant, I assume, to get the hummingbird? What was your build?

I don't have the build on me at the moment but it did involve Arcane Heirophant levels. The main problem with the hummingbird was that despite getting it to Huge size it couldn't actually deal any damage because 0 damage is not a die size to scale up from.

You could have used grafts. I mean, the Goring Horn is a pretty good choice. Deepspawn is also nifty. Bind Soulmeld would also be a valid choice, I think.

I could have done I suppose but the PBP it was designed for collapsed before I even finished the build completely.

At least that Hummingbird could have licked the nectar out of the biggest flower in the world!
