You're talking about Silk Road and yes, it operated purely through Bitcoins since the wallets don't have any personally identifiable information attached.  It did about $15M of trade volume annually.

Oh yeah that.

So far as I know, I haven't spent a $1 on that sort of thing.
(methinks my kitty avatar doth protest too much)

Anyway, I've heard the claim that about 20% of the USA economy is gray or black market.  With that much money at stake, it's no surprise people are trying to make money off of it either sideways, or just as gray/black.  The Freakonomics guy puts the world number a little higher.

The issue I take with your statement is that no money is all that real, anymore.  What would you rather have, an opaque bank telling you that you possess X amount of value because of bits on their computer, or a heavily encrypted ledger that is virtually impossible to forge unless you possess a ridiculous amount of computing power?

Fantasy hypothesis are fascinating.

But in the real world, banks don't rely only on digital records, and crytocurrencies are being cracked down just fine.

The Bitcoin ceo just got offed in Singapore.
Of course it's only suicide.
And the Bitcoin inventor (~"maybe") is the Newsweek coverstory.

Doesn't sound like "the" CEO of anything to me. From this and the related articles, she was a CEO of some company that happened to also do bitcoins.

Basically anything to do with SNP responses to news would qualify here, I guess.*

*That is, the response is always 'this shows that we are right', regardless of the news.

Can you explain to me why that news story is WTF? The internet is already run by a few groups around the world (the so-called "root" users), so the ICANN going international doesn't seem so bad to me, I guess...

Then again, I am also assuming that they'll be smart enough to not pull a UN Council on Human Rights...

My bad.  I seem to have conflated the 3 separate stories, into just 2.  It's still probably a good investment.

In other news Fred Phelps is dying.  Hopefully the Hell he ends up in is far too gay for his tastes.

Many different images in my head, and now that one is stuck there...

At least it would be a good insult to one of the most offensive jackasses alive.

This was a survey done by a shady online cupon vendor that may or may not have met any sort of scientific standards.  Really, it was a multiple choice test with answers clearly designed to confuse people who were not absolutely certain of the correct answer.

On another note, without context SEO could mean any number of things.  Even in the minimal context of "words used in techno-jargon" it could mean any number of things.

It's amazing that Education "professionals" don't understand bullying enough to know that kids don't get bullied because they stand out, they get bullied because some children are just assholes.
