I'm trying to remember a video game, and I'm sorry I can't give anything that's truly concrete except one little bit.  Basically it's about this guy on a starship and he has to do the usual kill aliens and such.  However, it had a system where the guy could acquire augments and all that, but at the cost of his humanity, and this mechanic played a noteworthy role in how the game played since it was supposed to be one of those "moral" choices.

Does anyone know the name of it?  I recall TotalBiscuit talking about it a little a couple years ago or so, if that helps.

Just so I know, it's a PC game, right? Is it a straight-up WRPG?

System Shock?
I'm not arguing, I'm explaining why I'm right.

System Shock?

It might be System Shock 2...  The art for it looks familiar.

And I'm pretty sure it's a PC game, yes Kuro.  TB doesn't usually do much with console stuff.  And if the "W" in "WRPG" means Western (meaning not Japanese), then I'm pretty sure it is.

Alright, gonna go searching for the game in question.

And yes, WRPG refers to Western RPGs.

Do you remember if its combat style was tactical or action-based?

The mechanical augmentation bit also sounds a lot like Deus Ex, but the plot doesn't really fit.  Could it be the sequel that I never played?  I think it was called Invisible War.

I don't think there are any spaceships in the Deus Ex universe, but I could be wrong.

I... Tried, to play System Shock 2 again recently. But the game is just too dated. The AI sucks, the graphics are too primitive, even the game's pace just feels... Odd. It just won't live up to my memory of it, unfortunately.

Two Best Friends Play released their Saints Row IV video early Monday morning (or Sunday night?) The game isn't even being released until the 20th.

The video has since vanished off the net. I wish I downloaded it to repost it somewhere. But, to let you know what's new. The protagonist saves America form nuclear destruction  as a preluge mission. A quick time skip later and you have been voted in as the President of the United States. You get to walk down the hall choosing to cure cancer forever or feed people, to punch a guy in the face or kick him in the balls, and to high five nightblade and party with him later of leave him hanging. Then you hold a conference and are attacked by aliens. I'd say the reward choice system is back.

The protagonist has a vast array of super powers now including super speed/jump, glide and a feeze shot. Additionally apparently you're standard melee is a kick them into the sky team rocket style. The video showed about a dozen ways to slam the ever living hell out of people too. Lots of people tossing, spinning around, and face on the concrete action.

Over all, it looks like the same game engine as Saints Row the Third. But not instead of simply parodying GTA and the like they have added the superhero line of sandboxes such as inFamous.

Well, it all started with an April Fool's Day tease of fictional DLC, which was so popular that the developers were going to turn the concept into actual DLC. Eventually, they cancelled the DLC and just made it into a full-on, standalone game as the next sequel.

My favorite moments of this series are just putzing around with my brother on co-op wreaking havoc on the city and playing around with vehicles, weapons, etc.

I've made a very specific persona for my Saint's Row avatar, and I've even ported it over into other games since I have so much fun with it.

Though I don't always care for some of the humor, I love this series. Definitely looking forward to playing it come August 20th.

On a separate note, has anyone here picked up Shadowrun Returns? It's still early for user-generated content, but so far I'm enjoying the pre-loaded adventure, and it's making me itch to play Shadowrun or at least a game set in the same or a similar setting. If not Shadowrun, then maybe something using SirPercival's Magipunk stuff...

Yes, I have Shadowrun Returns.  And pre-ordered Saint's Row IV.

The initial adventure in Shadowrun is fun.  It feels like a classic Shadowrun adventure that you might buy for the tabletop game.  Plus, I like the little nods to the old SNES game!  (there's at least one remix of the combat music, and having Jake in the game as an ally is sweet!)
What do I win?
An awesome-five for mentioning Penny Arcade's On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness.

I am amused by the talk on Saints Row 4, having recently picked up 3.  I am emjoying it muchly, though my friend has issues with it having played 2 and found the transition jarring.  For me, I had no previous experience to jar with, and the over the top madness is fitting for me.  Good times flying around the city in an advanced fighter jet blowing up everything until choppers shoot me down, feels like GTA.

Sad for SR4, it'll probably be a while, money is saved for GTA5 for the next open world experience.

MEANWHILE IN THE TEMPLE OF EXPLOSIONS...

Lookie!  Shiny new 3DS XL!  I'mma play Animal Crossing while I'm on vacation!  Be envious!
...

What do you mean the 3DS isn't new?  :O
Mudada.

L4D3 possibly confirmed in development! Valve may finally break their curse, unless L4D3 is actually named L4DOne. [/XboxOne Joke]

Actually L4D3 as a XB1 launch title would be a pretty good way to get sales going for it, and Valve is smart enough to market the game as a standalone instead of as a sequel (even though it will be a continuation of sorts) in order to draw in new players.

As long as they don't half-ass it and make it a NEW game instead of what they did with L4D -> L4D2.

I was so fucking mad. I spent good money on L4D, then, about a year later, comes L4D2 - Same graphics, including ALL of the maps from L4D, all characters/weapons. Some new characters which are just reskins and revoices, a couple of new weapons and some maps. Seriously wtf? This isn't even enough material for a fucking expansion pack and they marketed it as a new game.

k, end of rant.

I am back playing Borderlands. I thank the Psycho and Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragonkeep. That alone was enough to perk my interest up again! And then i read about Orange's being rebalanced, drops being tweaked, and suddenly the game seemed interesting again!

I really hope they will go the Diablo 2 route, and continue to support the game for a long time with content, even if it's paid. Just too interesting!

In another note... Me, as someone who has played D2 for a long, looooong time, is tempted to play Diablo 3, but i'm really really really disappointed with it. Then i saw Path of Exile.

Anyone plays Path of Exile? Is it good? What can you tell about it?

Path of Exile looks amazing, unfortunately my laptop can't run it.

I'm going to try it out on my new laptop when it arrives.  It's already in my state!

I played it. I'm not much of a fan, TBH.  If you're not big on character development and just want mad loot, then Path of Exile is good.  The skill tree is deceptively shallow, though.

They are making adjustments to it.

Also, I don't know why I'm keeping track of patch notes to a game that I can't play.  Or if the adjustments they are making actually alleviate the issue.
