Armored boars are easy peasy. Just great combustion them a couple of times. They don't respawn either, so if you die to one (such as me), just run back, grab your souls and make porkchops of the other one.

As for me, I just beat Nito -- fully upgraded Pyromancy and just flamed him to death. I'm not forward to Londo Ruins and I'm trying to farm humanity to unlock the shortcut so I can try to kill another boss before going crazy.

edit: Risda, Elite Knight Armor is pretty awesome without having to sacrifice for a bunch of endurance. Havel's Ring + 29~ Endurance lets me run around just fine. I've also found that the best weapon against the crystal schmucks is the Gravelord Sword. It took them down in two strong hits as opposed to four from the Dragon Sword and three from my Enchant +5 Halberd (though, I have also have about a 12 INT)

Even though I dumped 30 humanity into the Chaos Covenant, I'm actually a sorcerer... only did this for the shortcut to Lost Izalith (that's not open yet  :banghead)... but I guess I could use pyromancy inside Duke's Archives...

Well... I am itching to try Ornstein's set, but I need to give up on my flipping Dark Wood Grain Ring... lemme check the Elite Knight set...

Edit: just found out how the shortcut works...

You now know you're supposed to activate the shortcut BEFORE you drop out of the covenant, right?

As for the boars, I pretty much just impale them on lightning spears (the miracle, not the weapon), but then again I'm a Sunbro. I impale EVERYTHING on those.

As far as "sorcerism" goes, I've got good and bad news for you, Risada.

The bad: sorcery diminishes its usefulness against some of the toughest bosses (Four Kings comes to mind, they're magic resistant). It pretty much owns all utility spells (short of protection against fire and magic, which is covered by pyromancy and miracles respectively), but most utility spells you'll actually wanna cast do not scale in usefulness with your magic stat (I'm not sure about weapon buffs such as Crystal Magic Weapon though). Barring the Moonlight Greatsword, and MAYBE the Moonlight Butterfly Horn, magic-based weapons scale poorly off your INT stat (MGS is the only weapon in the game that scales to a S, I think, and ALL its damage is magic).

The good: sorcery has a lot of ways to increase its sheer output and damage. If you want to go REALLY nuts, Crown of Dusk, Tin Crystallization Catalyst, Bellowing Dragoncrest Ring, and Ring of Dusk will give you something in the neighborhood of 170-200% damage (not sure how much the TCC adds by itself, all I know is that its MagAdj is crazy high, specially after your INT goes above 42), at the cost of halving your HP. If you don't mind halving your castings, you can skip the Ring of Dusk.

Even so, with a couple of tests I did on my glitched char, it turns out sorcery damage doesn't go much higher than anything else (topped off at 1275 damage from a Crystal Soul Spear against a Drake in the Valley, versus 1250 from a Sunlight Spear - hands down the strongest offensive miracle in the game - using Crown of Dusk, Sunlight Talisman and Ring of the Sun's Firstborn).

One thing I hate about Skyward Sword is the sword beam attack is a tad touchy to pull off mid-combat. Makes a decent lead-in for it, but it isn't something I can pull off at the drop of a hat.

One thing I love about it is the orchestral CD that came with my copy of it. Excellent addition to my collection seeing as TnS is down indefinitely.

For this reason I used it to clear out fodder most of time (that an killing those ball-spitting fishes that hide in lava and sand). Most things that survive more than a few quick blows usually know how to block it anyway.

I finished Skyward Sword about two weeks ago, and I can't believe how much that game destroyed my inital hope and optimism.  Never before have I felt like I was fighting with the controls more than the enemies (perhaps because I've avoided Wii games that don't let you use the Gamecube controller like the plague until now?).  I just got sick of swings or thrusts not registering correctly, sick of how many combats turned into blatant minigames where the enemy was basically completely passive and guiding you in how to attack him, sick of the massive amount of fetch quests that for the most part (sniping bokoblins pre-6th dungeon was fun, I'll admit) were unfun and blatant game length padding, sick of the damned real time item use and how it was impossible to actually use a healing potion without getting hit in the process, sick of...Argh!

I can't believe I farmed for treasures and bugs, putting up with that godawful unavoidable notification that opens up your inventory just to show you you just got your 54th butterfly etc..., in anticipation of being geared up for the 2nd quest ("Hero Mode").  I don't think I ever want to play through that game ever again, it was literally a chore, and I can count the actual fun parts of the game on one frigging hand (4th dungeon, 5th dungeon, the sniping part mentioned above, the final dungeon...that's basically it).

Anyway, I went back to Bayonetta afterwards, beat it on easy, and just a few days ago, beat it on normal and finished all the alfheim portals.  That game rocks!  I don't think I have the skill and perseverence for hard mode, but I certainly still want to mess around with it more.  The instant death quick time events still seem cheap, but since they're usually for genuinely lethal things like having a building thrown at you, I can accept their existence in a game meant to be blatantly over the top.

Once I tire of Bayonetta, not sure what to play next...God of War III, Heavenly Blade, or Genji: Days of the Blade.  I'm leaning towards Genji, my twitchy dodging from Bayonetta at least sort of carries over to that, would probably be a good transition to GoW.  Cause I tried playing GoW a bit to make sure the disc worked, and man...after Bayonetta, I was just dodging WAY too much for that game. :)  It was getting me killed on the first area... (dodging is pretty worthless in GoW, seems like blocking is the go-to option for surviving things)

Hard Mode Bayonetta isn't that bad, it's not a walk in the park but it's perfectly beatable. Infinite Non-Stop Climax Mode, on the other hand, I got through about four levels before I resorted to...dubious methods and then I still haven't beaten it.

Ah, yes... I know what dubious methods you speak of. I managed to beat it myself by a fraction of a hair. A lot of it involved going back to previous difficulty levels and stocking up on items like I was going to die if I didn't (which was technically true).

I've spent a LOT of time on Bayonetta. Honestly, I hope beyond hope for a sequel OR at least a spiritual successor. I don't care what anyone says, the protagonist of that game is beyond awesome and NOT just a female Dante Sparda with a penchant for getting randomly naked. (Besides, you never see any of the important stuff anyway!)

Well, in my case it consisted of rounding up halos and purchasing some of the special items. Plus stocking up like mad on the invincibility lollies.

Stock up halos by beating the tar out of the wind boss (Chapter 6 or 7, I don't remember). Use the lightning claws and use the skates to move faster. Then use the "If I Get Hit, Activate Witch Time" item and the "Piss Off The Enemies" item (can you tell it's been a hot minute since I've played?). And just keep your combo sky high -- which isn't hard to do, I break 9000 three or four times on this fight. Get your halos, then follow the instructions here: http://www.gamefaqs.com/xbox360/946346-bayonetta/cheats

Or use the PS3 version if you play on that.

Wrong quote'd.

Yeah, I actually did that.  Selene's light + Gaze of Despair against the Chap. 7 boss.  It sucked, apparently on Xbox you can get millions of halos from it?  On PS3, the most I ever got was 450k, I usually was lucky to get ~220k-300k.    I found, between sucking and not being far into normal, I needed the Blue Witch Heart to survive the fight w/o dying or using items, which hurts your score.  So I eventually got into a routine of "play normal through, everytime you score 40+ points on Angel Attack, go farm chapter 7, rinse, repeat."  Worked pretty well, though I still got sick of that guy.  Once I got to 5 million I got to progress onto the REAL awesome farming trick: The first Alfheim in Chap. 3, with Lightning Durga and Climax Brace equipped (that's all you need, I didn't even use Gaze of Despair!), spawns infinite enemies while you "try" to stay in the air for 20 seconds.  So you just murder as much as possible and send your combo sky high, fail the mission, then immediately repeat.  You can even exit out of the chapter w/o completing when you're done.  I racked up 18 million halos in about half an hour of work, even though a few times I broke the combo and got very few halos.

I was also aware of the Kilgore glitch farming trick on the boss of Chap. 2, but I have trouble repeatedly doing the glitch, nevermind if I have to be holding down L1 the whole time and periodically popping purple lolipops to keep the witch time going, and I don't like the idea of going through an entire chapter just ot farm.  I think the Alfheim one is the easiest and best. :)

I think my next goal is mastering the countering with Moon of Maha Kalaa.  I got "Touch and It Will Hurt" (counter 10 enemy attacks) just from random lucky button hits over the course of playing, but it'd be nice to get the award for successfully countering 3 enemy attacks in a row w/o getting hurt one.  Anyone know if the butterfly accesory being used to absorb damage would count against that?

I can't confirm it either way as it's been a long time since I last played the game, but as I recall my practice with the Moon of Maha Kalaa mostly came from fighting Rodin over and over and over again.

So I was reading the new Game Informer, and despite the fact that I don't particularly care for Top X of The Year lists anymore, I was a little disappointed with theirs. Now, given I didn't play the majority of the games that came out this, I felt there was one that was surprisingly gone: Catherine.

Sure, Rage was a fantastic game and gorgeous for sure, but the plot was kinda ho-hum and the driving...:banghead and maybe it was just me hyping it, but I was expecting a game that would give Borderlands an ass whooping. Bulletstorm was too fucking short and too goddamn linear...but seriously, you're playing a Ohgren Spiegel except a space pirate and Skill Shots  :love

But Catherine was a much better puzzle game than either of these were shooters. And don't get me started on Call of Battlefield: Redux. These two games, from my understanding, were simple retreads of the last iterations of their series -- except Battlefield which was a step BACKWARDS from Black Ops.

Sports games, blah blah blah I hate them but other people like them, whatever. Soccer's the only sport that interests me and I'd rather play it than a FIFA game.

Dragon Age II was on the list of Biggest Disappointments for 2011 despite being an alright game for what it was. They complained of it's "lack of variety and mindless button mashing combat" ... Did they remember the combat from Dragon Age? "Blood Wound. Crushing Prison. Force Field. Auto Attack." And that the plot was less involved and compelling than the first one, which I can understand, but just it's not an epic fucking quest across the country, it's focused on the rise to power/infamy of Hawke which let them tune into that rather than introducing you to a thousand NPCs that you meet once and forget. Besides, the DLC for DAII is better than DA. Not as good as Dark Souls, Skyrim or (probably) the Witcher 2, but certainly not a huge fucking disappointment -- I agree with their assessment of Anders being a little baby in the game though.

Skyrim was also Game of the Year AND A Huge Fucking Disappointment -- we've covered the reasons in depth in this thread though. But, if GI has one more fucking article about Skyrim, I may scream. I'm sure they've devoted any entire magazine of content to it over the past year. It's a great game, but seriously. Seriously. Fucking seriously guys. We get it.

Now, time for Cracked.

I'm playing White Knight Chronicles 2 right now, and loving every second of it.

Sure, the plot is Everything We've Seen Before. But it's told WELL. The characters are beautiful and compelling enough to make you want to see what's next.

But I want my own Incorruptus already. Rumor has it you only get it near the end of the game. >.<

I got both 1 and 2, finished 1 and started 2 but after 20 minutes or so I realised that I actually loathed the combat and would rather like to see the cast die in a fire... plus there is a ridiculous amount of things that should be available ingame (skill remaps for example) that you have to pay real money for...

Skill remaps? What are you talking about?

I imported my save from the first game and I had the opportunity to respec my character completely, plus Leonard, at no cost at all.

That said, there's a lot of nickeling and diming going on, that's true...

If you want to remake your character again it will cost you. You could do it for free until level 30...
