Incidentally, I'm actually seeing some cool character development at this point. If you've still got the game, I recommend giving it another chance. I guess the flames you want them to die in will at least be a little smaller.

What games are you looking forward to in 2012?

Resident Evil 6 has been announced (FUCK YOU CAPCOM I WANT LEGENDS 3  :shakefist), Borderlands 2 and Mass Effect 3 are all going to be huge titles. Kingdoms of Amular will probably get a boost from the fact that one of Bethesda's former tops is behind it. New Devil May Cry. Probably another iteration of Marvel vs Capcom or Street Fighter 4 will probably be released.

Iunno what else.

Huh. What's left for Capcom to do with Resident Evil? I mean... well, you don't need the spoilers, do you? There kinda aren't any directions left for the story to take.

New DMC? Not by Capcom, I expect. Platinum games is supposed to have a busy year in 2012, but they already shot down the possibility of Bayonetta 2.

Seems like a dry spell for RPGs. I've been playing some Mass Effect 2... it's kinda nice, I guess, but like all of Bioware's games, it feels pretty repetitive after a while, and so far the story has no really big twists. Also, I haven't gotten into Miranda's pants yet, and I'm afraid I might actually not be able to.

The new DMC is by Ninja Theory. I forgot about Operation Raccoon City, too.

Gamestop is phasing out PS2 games! How am I supposed to get my hands on Xenosaga Episode 3 in a 2-for-1 sale now!? I don't want new RPGs, just old ones at unbeatably good prices!
A smile from ear to ear
3.5 is disappointingly flawed.

Diablo III. Especially as I have it Pre-Ordered.

I have to muster all my love and tolerance not to hate them for not releasing Xenosaga 1 over here as I think the series looks awesome

Seems like a dry spell for RPGs.

For those who are interested (I am), Tales of Graces f is going to be released this year... and I am hoping for an announcement from Atlus regarding SMT 4 - not any spin-off, but the real deal...

Speaking of SMT, Devil Survivor 2 is imminent in North America.

Skyrim is still good, although I find it amusing that the next announced patch is purely bugfixes.

D3 is one I'll buy, probably through the WoW promotion.  I'll use WoW to keep myself from getting burned out on D3 for that first year, and then pay for the whole thing with the Real-Money Auction House.

I see gobs of people praising Xenoblade, anyone know if it's actually good?  Probably the only "2012 release" (for North America it is...) I've noticed at all.

EDIT: I own and love both Baten Kaitos games for the GC and notice this one is also being developed by Monolith, so I assume I'll like it.

WHile I am normally wary of in-name-only titles (Xenoblade is related to Xenosaga), it looks at least somewhat interesting.

While I have never played Xenoblade or Xenogears, I can attest that Xenosaga is a fantastic trio of RPGs, though I have yet to fully complete it. I would advise anyone looking for a good story or RPG to snag all of them!

I will admit that Xenosaga seems to come from the same school of thought as Metal Gear Solid 2: long, loong, incredibly looooong cutscenes. Fortunately, you can skip and pause them, and they are packed with interesting information, so it isn't a drag to sit through a half hour or more of them...

I think that was one of the reasons I decided years ago to ignore the series, don't recall.  But, the wikipedia article for Xenoblade says it's low on the cutscenes and such, so I think it'll be fine.  And yeah, I did enjoy Bayonetta despite the lengthy scenes (with an awful lot of PRESS X OR DIE!!!! immediately after the scenes), so maybe I have more tolerance for that stuff than I give myself credit for.

I mostly like gameplay and story, and prefer it when story isn't told by making you watch half hour movies, though.

With a series like Xenosaga, though, you just can't run away from the exposition.

It's funny, Xenogears did a lot of long cutscenes as I recall, and yet nobody complained about that. (Well, with the exception of the beginning of Disc Two. But even I have to admit that was a drag, and I tend to actually ENJOY games with lengthy cutscenes...)

There's a DVD available for the cutscenes of Xenosaga...

Yeah, there's a lot of cutscenes in the first game alone. The second wasn't that much better about it (but the second is widely-agreed to be the worst of the trilogy, due to extensive executive meddling), but the third at least doesn't have cutscenes that lead into other cutscenes.

Honestly, Xenosaga would have been better off as a pure anime. The actual animated adaptation is decent enough despite the changes made to cannon. Hell, you can actually skip playing the first two games entirely and just pick up the third, as it has a built-in summary of the events you would be missing out on.

I actually found a Swedish site for used videogames today and managed to get a hold of Xenosaga 2 (with the DVD), Final Fantasy VI & VII (both of which I have owned on a previous occasion, but a former friend lost them) and Champions: Return to Arms. So I'll probably get back to you guys with my thoughts on Xenosaga later on

Again, 2 is widely considered worse than 1 or 3. Just a heads up.

Thanks, unless I get a hold of a chipped PS2 and an american copy of the first game I'll have to settle with the cutscenes from it. Getting a hold of the third game will be a challenge (if I decide to try and get it)

So I just got the first two Mass Effect games, just to see what the hell all the whoopie-dos are about. I'm not sure what to expect -- Dragon Age in space doesn't seem fitting, especially as Mass Effect came first and double so because it seems to be some damn ambitious.
