I've tried out Operation Raccoon City. It's... not what I expected, but it's not half bad. It's clearly geared towards multiplayer though, particularly co-op. I just need to find more people playing it.

It's actually a shame the only campaign available so far is so darned short.

And there's no local co-op. Why make a team based, tactic centric game that supports online co-op but then...no local co-op. I've heard a lot of people ramble about "well, the game has to render it twice" and this and that. But FEAR 3 did it and that game looks a thousand times better than ORC.  :banghead

I'm sorry, I can't let this go, but it just really infuriates me. I know Capcom didn't make the game, but they stamped their name and IP on it, it's like they're trying to really piss off their core series fans (Megaman and RE and Street Fighter).

They still make Megaman? That's news to me.  :p

Actually, it may be simpler than that. The game isn't designed to be played by less than four participants. And a screen divided in four... isn't all that pretty. Rendering twice is one thing, but four times?

I do agree it would be a nice incentive though. Maybe in a future patch - the game has clearly been released while still mostly in-development. (I mean seriously, free DLC one month after release? Smacks of level design not completed!)

Speaking of things to come, I really wish D3P would release the avatar stories from WKC2 somewhen near. Preferrably for free. But maybe I'm hoping too much.

Anyone heard about the latest DLC policy?

So, we pay money for the game, and then have to pay more just to unlock stuff that's already in the bloody CD and ready to use? And also wait until you dignify to actually allows us to burn our money?

And companies wonder why hacking/pirating is so popular.

This ain't new. The same thing happened with MK9, and with Resident Evil 5 before it (Versus Mode was already on the disk, only Lost in Nightmares and Escape had actual new content you had to download).

With the PS3 anyway, pirating is less popular than it used to be. This is partly due to the fact that the PS3 hacking community is a huge egofest and there has been nothing new for them to use in... well, I think over a year now.

Ok, I know CDs are flimsy, but plastic cards are the worst. I've burned through 3 debit cards last year alone, just because of how much I used them. Given how much I play games, those things would be garbage after three weeks.

You've got heaps of money or are you just piling up debt? Pretty much the only card I use has been in use for three years and it's fine.

No, my fingernails just tear plastic apart for some reason. Manicures haven't helped with that issue.

I'm not saying those cards didn't get used, but the damages dealt to them were more along the lines of someone taking a jackhammer to a driveway than natural wear.

I've heard some wallets are not perfect for cards either. Still, damn, you've got nails like the Sabretooth.

That would be any wallet that can't fit more than 3 cards at a time. And yes, I do.

Did you not hear about the Megaman Legends 3 and Megaman Universe fiascos? It's not so much they still make Megaman games, it's that they say they are and give us all sorts of hopes and bones for them, and then dash them with the cold indifference that only a corporate officer knows (on top of that, they blamed a highly involved and anticipating fan base for the cancellation with the reasonings of "lack of fan involvement").

I knew of Megaman Legends 3, but Megaman Universe is news to me. I.E. I have no idea what it was supposed to be about. So let's see...

-Megaman has been mercilessly kicked to the curb.
-The guy responsible for DMC quit the company and is now on Platinum.
-Resident Evil just... hasn't been the same since 4. Hell, they handed development for Operation Raccoon City to another company entirely; it's pretty unusual for companies to relinquish IP, even for spinoffs, which shows us how much Capcom doesn't give much of a shit about the franchise at this point.
-They aren't making more Gyakuten Saiban that anyone knows of.
-No big fighter game on the lineup either (I mean, SF versus Tekken? Seriously?).

So... either Capcom is focusing its entire staff to NOTHING ELSE BESIDES RE6 or they are out of ideas/continuing to kick its consumers in the collective nutsacks.

They are probably trying to revive the RE series, seeing as it's the one closest to the mainstream (the live action movies do exist, and they probably haven't broken even on the budget there quite yet).

They never will as long as they leave that fucktard director there. Seriously, that shit is pure fanfic!

Anyone given Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning a shot yet?
I've heard everyone is praising the combat (except for people sho despise Quicktime events). I've also heard some say the world is not rich enough, and others say that is fantastic.

What do you have to say? I'm tempted to buy it, actually.
I have not played too deeply into it (got a ways in with a chakram-focused mage, got bored, then switched to a roguish character), but I'd say it's probably worth your dollar if you enjoy the generic fantasy dealie. (This sounds like damning with faint praise, but the history seems to be reasonably detailed. I can't think of another descriptor.) There is an awful lot to do, so you will probably get a lot of mileage out of it.

If you're on the fence, wait until it goes on sale and then pick it up.

I'm going to try it out then.

I'm playing it and I'm very hooked.

Combat is much more interesting than the other typical RPGs running about. Combos are not as elaborate as DC Universe Online, but at least there're loads of moves to use.

What I especially like, and since I'm the sort of person who will only play a game for 1 full run, is the ability to "reset" everything and reallocate points and stuff. I hate having to replay a game as a different character only to try a different class/skill set.

As for inventory book keeping, the inner pack mule squeals in joy that many components have their own bags and do not count as part of your carry limit, but I wish they have a bag for all the socket gems as well. Maybe a mod in the future would do that.

Maybe I'm dumb, but the map button does not have any maps for a locale and definitely no map for any dungeons you step into.

I'm currently going pure mage, although I picked the wrong god as a blessing (I choose death which gives critical strike chance boost and damage boost), but still, there is the option of resetting my points and going full rogue if I want to.

Chakram sucks at close range, must always switch to staff.
Will add later

Phantasy star online 2 is coming out this year. That I already knew some weeks ago.

The final follow up of my first and favorite mmo(despite taking me over a year to figure out I could play with other people online instead of just split screen). Guns. Oversized swords. Dual wielding laser machine guns. Oversized cannons. Magic. Tecniques. Robot maids with guns. Waves of bloodthirsty enemies coming all at once instead of one at a time. Actual real-time action instead of that boring point-and-click all other mmos seem to be so fond of. Your character doesn't need to wear huge spiked pauldrons in late game. Even today I still pick up PSO now and then despite all the other fancy free mmos out there.

But now I discovered it will be Free To Play. Right away. I... Can't express my joy in words. The only way SEGA could make the news better would be if PSO 2 would start world peace, solve the financial crisis and cure all diseases.

Your are using weapons as mage. Y U NO USE MAGUK.

Granted, you use a Staff because it essentially grants three spells, not for the semi impressive damage it does. Also, the blink abilities? They go through things. Dodge through your enemies, rather than away from them, and it works quite a bit better. You WILL be squishy until you get some good ranks in sagecraft, though. Once you have that, though, you just stick +80 HP/MP charms in everything.

The game is rather easy though, playing it on hard is a must.

Started playing Xenoblade Chronicles about a week ago.  Just got to the part where Sharla joins your group.

I'm getting hooked in to the point where I spend way more time playing it than I originally intend to.  And the music and plot and scenery (character models not so much) are great.  But...at the same time, not sure I actually enjoy it that much overall.  The giant hordes of fetch quests (granted they aren't required, but I'm OCD about that stuff) just kinda drag the pacing down a ton and make the game seem more monotonous than it should be.  And trying to find the NPCs at different points in the day, with them moving around between places just makes it annoying.

The skip to landmarks is great with such a big world, but when you have to actually run through it, the horrific camera controls make that tough.  Especially since I'm now extremely paranoid to check all around for obscenely high level monsters -- this game loves dropping level 70+ monsters in an otherwise level 10 or 20 area!  I've had a few blind-side and kill me before I knew what was going on.  Likewise for them joining an existing battle.  *Winning the fight*  *people suddenly drop*  "What the hell...?"  *briefly glimpse the high level newcomer before TPK happens*  The "funniest" is when day changes to night (causing stronger monsters to come out) mid-fight.  That's gotten me twice already.

I didn't like the "simple" auto-attack battle system at first, and as a non-MMO player, the terminology was a big turn off.  But once they start layering in all the talents and combo attacks and special Macguffin powers (trying to avoid spoilers; if you've played you know what I mean), it gets quite complicated and hectic!  Which for me is a good thing.  Battles are very fast paced and tend to resolve themselves delightfully fast, but not so quickly that they're utter jokes.  Also, as a major hater of the final fantasy style overly-long special effects fade in for every single flipping fight that takes like half a damn minute to go through, the instaneous, seemless battle initialization this game has makes me happy.

Anyway, other than sidequests detracting enjoyment for me, the awful camera controls, mishaps with the gratuitously overpowered monsters sprinkled nearly everywhere, and the kinda poorly organized equipment/item screens, game's really good so far.  Anyone else playing it?
