Baby Maeve was born this morning as the largest hurricane ever seen in the North Atlantic was flattening the Eastern US.  :D

Congratulations.

It really is great when smart people breed too.

Funny, I was pretty sure I posted this earlier, but anyway...

Baby Maeve was born this morning as the largest hurricane ever seen in the North Atlantic was flattening the Eastern US.  :D

Now we know the cause.

Funny she should be born on the same day as my cute little cousin.  :D

Congrats!!!! Woohooo! Everything okay?
Yeah, went very smoothly. Her Chinese Astrology symbol is a water dragon, and shes named after an ancient nature goddess. So yeah... everything went well for us, but... sorry about that hurricane! :P

out of curiosity, did have a full reading done? considering that the year symbol is actually the relationship with ones' grandparents, ancestors, and how one is viewed in society; not the self symbol.

here is one of the better online calculators, if you are interested in finding out. when inputing the longitude just google "what is the longitude of (my location)" and use the pre-decimal west coordinate. if you are west of the GM, then it will be a negative value in the calculator. the day symbol is the one that deals with her inner self and marriage possibilities.

I'm afraid I didn't get half of what that was meant to be. I.E. I tried the chart, but I don't understand it at all.  :???

A friend of ours is pretty into astrology (Chinese and "Western"), and told us about it. I don't really know to what level she dug into it.

Edit: Wow... I sure can't interpret that website... She was born at 8:26 Eastern (US) time on Oct 30th, in Blacksburg, VA (-80 W longitude), if someone else wants to tell me what they can tell from that. :P

You're thinking of Pacific Standard Time. 8:26 Eastern Standard Time is for the King in Yellow.

If either of you can teach me exactly how that works, I'd appreciate it. I find such things fascinating.

I hate the fact I was born under the year of the rat. =P

rat is not a bad year. like all years, it has good and bad aspects.

in order to understand the reading, one has to look into the philosophies behind yin and yang, as well as the interconnections of the five elements, and the influence that each element has on each other. ba zi mi ji is the system that uses feng shui, sometimes called chinese geomancy, in life as well as the environment

generally speaking, the year pillar (the forth or right-most column) is your relationship with your grandparents, ancestors, and society; the month pillar (the third column) is the relationship with parents and peers; the day pillar (the second column) is the inner self and marriage; and the hour pillar (the leftmost) deals with children, siblings, and endings.

so according to the calculator, the symbol of your daughters inner self and marriage potential is that of the rat. people with the day pillar of rat, dragon, or monkey get along really well.

the elements form a grid which all have an influential affect on each other, with the cycle of elemental dominance modified by each yin and yang aspect, as well as how close to each other they are in the grid, and the frequency of appearance. an ideal chart would have nearly equal proportions of every element and yin/yang appearance in the grid.

some systems of calculation include a hidden pillar or fifth pillar called the life pillar.

the eight luck pillars are supposed to describe what periods of time during the cycle of years have complementary or opposing flows of energy which is supposed to indicate periods of difficulty or ease in one's life.

taking everything into account, one can bring in certain colors, elements, and other things associated with each animal and element to balance out characteristics in one's own chart that are too strong, or are lacking. the idea is to achieve harmony and balance.

you can even compare compatibility between people by comparing elements of both charts and getting clues how to approach and work with a certain individual.

so far i have not been able to find anywhere that will give an interpretation without requiring money. but maybe someone with better search-fu might be able to find something. ^^

belike.

that or due to the sheer amount of math and research involved in doing an actual reading instead of one of those chintzy newspaper horoscopes, maybe no one wants to invest that much time for free. ^^

Of course there isn't hard science involved. It's all about the symbology.

Doesn't mean it's not interesting to read about.
