A LE Rainbow Servant's Patron Outsider?
« on: July 30, 2012, 03:26:36 AM »
I am adapting the Rainbow Savant to be Lawful Evil but cannot seem to find an appropriate outsider (or other creature) for it. Does anyone know of a LE outsider that casts arcane spells and has access to the cleric spell list?

Aren't Rakshasa mentioned in the adaptation section?

I was looking at the 3.5 Rakshasa which does not get cleric spell access (the only real reason to take the class) and it does not feel right to have the class grant something the creature doesn't get.

But, perusing through the Pathfinder ones there is the Tataka Rakshasa which could work.

Yeh I did think of the dragons but feels a bit cheaty.

Thanks for the replies guys, and I am interested if anyone knows any other options.

Honestly why does it have to be an outsider anyway? It seems fairly incidental to the class itself.
Dragons make a great mystical powersource and many of them have arcane casting with cleric access. Admittedly there is truckloads of stuff that already runs off dragon power but they are sort of integral to the game.

It does not have to be I guess, I'm probably putting too much thought into this as this is for an encounter. The group is epic and going vs a deity. I was asked to GM the session so the usual GM can participate as a player.

The god is the god of Inevitability and Zemblanity (think the opposite of serendipity). In the encounter he will be running around with superior invisibility readying actions to cast the spell he counters with Divine Defiance to make the party look like they are turning against each other (or that magic is unreliable).

So to have as many spells available he will be a Beguiler going into Rainbow Servant.

Is there a spell like Misdirection + Baleful Transposition that swaps you and an opponent around and disguises each of you?

In Complete Champion, there is Bewildering Substitution, which almost does this, it does not actually swap anyone, but rather makes the illusion that an ally and an enemy have swapped.
What do I win?
An awesome-five for mentioning Penny Arcade's On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness.

Check it: phaedrusxy made an evil Rainbow Servant using Nagas.

I should probably copy that and some other things in my sig over to the homebrew forum... Although I think they're already linked in the compendium.

I requested a forum for extended sigs and compilation threads, but it hasn't happened yet.

That looks interesting, but I am not too sure where the domains come from. Is there more lore on the Ha-Naga in the book?

I was thinking of using the rakshasa and instead of gaining the air domain gaining the eldritch heritage feats for the Rakshasa bloodline. I'll also add in getting the Bloodline Arcana as that seems to fit the concept perfectly (ok, who just got dominated?).

Thats quite nice,  even more paranoia :D

I just made it all up, based on typical tales about snakes in (mostly Western) mythology. Trickery and Charm are kind of obvious, I think. I think everyone knows of snake charmers, and my grandfather used to tell us that snakes could "Charm" birds: somehow mesmerizing them so that the bird was incapable of flying away, while the snake slithered over to devour it. I made up the other abilities based on these kinds of things and common phrases like "snake in the grass", etc.

I don't remember why I threw Travel in there. Probably because the Ha-Naga (and all nagas?) have magical flight.

The least thematic part of the whole class is actually gaining the cleric spell list at the end... although ha-nagas do cast cleric spells as arcane spells.
